2005-06 was the first year I had NHL Center Ice. Boy, was that Pens team putrid. |

Not as putrid as the season of Tarnstom setting up to draft Sid. It's crazy to think back how important drafting Sid was to the Penguins. If the Pens don't draft Crosby there's likely no team left in Pittsburgh. |

True...but we knew that 03-04 team would suck. I got firmly on the hype train for 05-06. |

As Pens fans we were pretty lucky that there were only about two super dark seasons of the rebuild. |

Agree, things could have been much worse. Though Shero is demonstrating in New Jersey why he deserved to get tossed in Pittsburgh. |

I don't know about that. He's made some pretty savvy moves, but sometimes things just don't work. Subban having the worst season of his career is definitely something out of his control. Hughes not coming along as people expected is not his fault.
I will say however that contract for Hischier was terrible, but at the same time it's not going to really hamper them. They're shedding older contracts and have a really great canvas to work with. I think Shero has set up the Devils to start being big-time buyers. |

Just spitballing, but if I'm the Pens I'd be going after both Saad and Toffoli as long as one of them is capable of successfully playing LW. You then move Galchenyuk out.
Move Bjugstad for an LD.
Mathematically I don't know how it all shakes out but it seems the Pens have a lot of LTIR space to play with. |

You gotta think Saad can do it. But yea both those guys would be a good get. |

So DeSmith was supposed to be called up... but lost his passport... so we called up a wheeling goalie.
Anyone else got a guess for the next unfortunate Penguins incident? |

Madmike finally gets to see Di Pauli. Think he's been waiting 2 or 3 years for this. |

Bigger picture: how much progress have they made in 5+ Years?
I don’t fault individual moves, such as Subban, but the aggregate is Edmonton/Buffalo tier. |

What happened to Jarry? - kfinl170
Yeah. What’s going on here if you call up an echl goalie to backstop Murray instead of just taking Jarry along for a plane ride? Why is this Florida game so important that Jarry needs additional rest to prepare?
Something is fishy. |

I mean it seemed to me Jarry may have tweaked his neck on that one play where he got ran into. Maybe just rest? |

I think with progress has been probably slower than they wanted, but they've got some promising young players and are now in a position to be serious buyers and build faster, so even though it may have taken a little longer I think they're finally in the position they need to be. |

Tarnstrom and Malone leading the way....man bad times haha. I get chills hearing the old Barbero goal calls in Civic Arena. He was so unique. |

Honestly they need Blackwood to step up or they need a tender. If Schneider didn't fall off a cliff they are much better IMO. Not perfect but a lot better. That's what worries me with Murray. I see more of the Schneider/Ward scenario than him being worth a big contract. |
