Great win for the Jets. It would be good to see Nogier put in the lineup to see what he can do as he can't be as bad as Bitetto.

I agree, nothing is as bad as Bitetto. He looks out of his league and always trailing in the play. Hopefully, if he is playing pro hockey in Winnipeg next year, it's nothing more than the Moose.

I think the Nogier is just a safety call up for the right side. I don't think they have any intentions to play him as Maurice has shown he would much rather play a veteran on the off side than a younger player on his natural side. That would make me think they would bring up left side Cameron Schilling if they had intentions to play one of them and Maurice would put Kulikov back on his off side if necessary if one of them was hurt. Our right side is pretty set with DeMalo, Pionk and Poolman.

If we're looking at the best player to fill the role for the right side, check out Johnathan Kovacevic. Outside of Berdin, he has been the only player worth watching for those that are still going to Moose 2.0 games. This year's Manitoba Moose is probably the worst lineup they have ever dressed since they came back to Winnipeg but the kid is a team leading +9 as a rookie. He's looking like he's the player that Jets brass hyped up that Logan Stanley was supposed to become.

I have not been to a moose game this year,
Has Vesalainen not been better of late? Has he shown any improvement ?

He's shown some improvement but he's still a project that will require some work and possibly some veteran mentorship with the Moose next season which is something they really lacked with so many playing the third and fourth line this season with the Jets. Having guys like Shaw play all year with the Jets I believe slowed the progress of the Jets prospects.

Vesalainen at times shows that he can use his size and strength on the skates to power into a high danger area while other times looks lost on the ice. His +/- is not very good. He could use some development to learn all aspects of the game. More time in the minors wouldn't do him harm as he does show growth. I see him at 2 years away from the Jets minimum which isn't a bad thing as it was 2 years ago that Harkins was playing in the ECHL after being sent down by the Moose and look how great a player he is becoming now.

Logan Stanley for the first half of the season took 2 steps back from where he was last year. He actually wasn't a bad AHL defenceman last year but his timing in preseason against NHL players was almost as embarrassing as Bitetto trying to play in the NHL. The last month however, even with the Moose playing really poorly, he has shown a lot of growth and is moving in the right direction. Time will tell if he will ever reach NHL calibre.

The most ready NHL ready players on the Moose are JC Lipon who has the sand paper of Lemieux but better discipline. I don't think the Shaw experiment has worked with the Jets and I would actually like to see them give him a try. He's a -1 on the season which is pretty good if you look at the rest of the team when guys that are older like Chibisov who are -16 with half the goals are getting shots in the NHL.

I know CJ Suess got the call up but I feel he's almost reached his ceiling. I don't know if his skillset where he's at will ever help the Jets. The other prospect of note is Leon Gawanke who is another right shot defenceman. He's got more offensive upside than Kovacevik but could improve in his zone. He should be 2 years away from the Jets and I'm pretty confident he will be in the NHL one day. Luke Green hasn't played enough to tell and Berdin is amazing but his development might be ruined if they don't get a team in front of him that doesn't have him learn bad habits of cheating to steal games. The rest of the Moose are worth as about as much as a bag of hockey pucks. It's like playing the lottery expecting anyone else to become a regular NHLer.

Interesting to see you still have hope for Stanley. That's encouraging.

Sounds like Kovacevic is our big hope on the Moose so that's something to look forward too.

Glad to see the Jets kept their two top picks, time to restock the cupboards as in Moose, if the draftees aren't NHL ready. Need to take the best C available with 1st pick and best D available with 2nd pick, not best "player" available.

This summer we need to address the 2C position (unless it's Roslovic) - probably via trade. Who goes out to do this is the big question. Perhaps a free agency acquisition to improve the D? Poolman, Pionk, Niku (if we still have him) and even Morrissey should all be better next season. And will Samberg come as advertised?

Always, always, always take the best player available!!! Taking a position of need are always the picks looked back on down the road as “why the hell dis they take that guy, when all these guys were available?”

When two guys are equal on your board, sure take the position you need. But if a winger has slipped and is the clear choice way ahead on your board than a D or C take the best player. It’s like asking now, would you rather Stanley or Debrincat?

Do we know that they didn't value Stanley higher then Debrincat?

I see the guy they took ahead of Point has left their ECHL team and went over to play in the Czech league.. Lol, oh well can't nail every pick I guess, gotta wonder was that taking 'best player available' or was it trying to fill a need, maybe everything after the 2nd round is a guessing game idk.

Personally I don't know if 'best player available' is always the way to go, if two guys are considered to be pretty similar in ability/skill but one fills a position of need then maybe it's better to select the one that fills the need, can always shift a center to the wing, not too often can a winger be taught how to play center though.

It would be great to see Roslovic a chance to play as the #2 center for an extended period of time, not just a few shifts. Next year hopefully.

Usually I would agree with this theory, but man we need a young C coming up through the system, certainly don't need a winger.
Plus sometimes the player rated "the best player available" actually is no guarantee to succeed in the NHL.

But, like I said, hard to argue vigorously with yours, and most others, theory of best player available. It's just I wouldn't this year. A Centre or D is a priority.

I really agree with this!!! The best #2C available might be sitting in our own line-up.

Yeah idk, I've heard that some teams release their draft boards but the Jets don't, I have no idea where those draft boards can be seen though.

Yup there's hits, misses and later round finds every year by pretty much every team.

Its pretty frustrating that Maurice broke up the 2015 line, Roslovic was doing fairly well centering that line and it was good development time for him playing center if nothing else.

With Little’s future extremely unknown at this point it's imperative they find a 2C for next season and if Roslovic has the potential to be that guy then he should be playing center now not playing on the wing.

Agree,
I thought I was done with Roslovic at Center but the 2015 line changed that. It’s a joke that Eakin is in that spot right now over him or Copp

Frustrating but not surprising. Now Lowry and Perreault will come back in the next week and bump those guys further down the line up.

I think you always consider the best player available, but that's what separates the good from the great GMs. A great GM will figure out to get the best player for their needs and will figure out how to get their man while obtaining additional picks. Just look at the disaster of the Oilers last decade that simply went with the best player available but didn't build a well rounded team to compliment some of their stars.

The biggest need for the Jets is a centre with defense coming in second. Centres can always be converted to wingers if they don't pan out as NHL centremen. If they were to draft today, they would pick around 11. If a centre or d is not available, I have no problem with them trading that pick and dropping down to pick a guy like Braden Schneider (19 McKeens) of the Wheat Kings if they get another 2nd or late 1st in the process. It's a stacked draft and our cupboards are empty. It's just as important to get great players as it is to have enough good players so you don't have AHL players like Bitetto playing 70 games on an NHL roster.

Seemingly lots of decent centres in this year's draft. Surely they can ind one that's actually going to play C at the NHL level.

Good idea on paper re Scheider, only problem being he might not be there at #18/19 or whatever. My thinking is if they see a player they want - grab him, no matter where he is rated by McKeen's, TSN or whoever. Get the player you want! I'm pretty sure every team will have a different list

But I guess, if they want to take a chance that the player they want is available at #19, go for it - as long as they add a 2nd rd pick.

Game could have gone either way!
