I'm part of the group of fans that thought they should have dealt him at the deadline. Of course, everyone got hurt shortly after and the team would probably be on the outside looking in if they did. 20/20 hindsight aside, I still don't think he's the type of player the Leafs need. |

1. Yes, it was a mistake.
2. No
3. Non of the 4 teams mentioned need him, or should sign him. I really can't imagine who would want him.
4. 1 or 2 year deal, $2M max. He won't be protected in the expansion draft, so he may wind up in Seattle. He is a 3rd pair D'man, good on the PP, put him on the ice if you need a goal late, and then hide him and his poor own zone defense for the rest of the game as much as you can. |

Ek if you supported trading Kadri for a more defensively responsible d-man...then which guys did you have in mind?
Also, do you think the RFA war in 2020 will be as bad as last year? Or will Covid-19 cause some teams to tone down the RFA wars? |

First off, I think the trade at the time was exactly what the Leafs needed and I applauded it. Even now, I still think it was worth the risk. The one thing teams get when trading for a rental player(one in his final contract year) is a chance to see the fit. In this case, Barrie didn’t fit, no big deal, it happens. If the Leafs never traded for Barrie and then this offseason gave him a 7 year deal, I think fans would all be excited at first and then when everyone realized he is just a RD version of Gardiner, we would panic over the fact that we are stuck with this bad contract. Being able to see the fit and then let him walk is worth the cost of Kadri.
Of course I would have loved for him to work out and be apart of the top 4 moving forward, but it didn’t, no big deal. If anything, this experiment shows how much the Leafs need a more defensive RD like Manson or Hamonic. I would love Pietrangelo but I think he will cost too much and may mean the Leafs have to trade one of their big 4 forwards, and I don’t think they are ready to do that. |

It was a bad trade, Dubas should of traded Kadri, a player with term, for a d-man who had term left, not a dman that's was ready to hit the open market, rookie mistake!
1. Did the Leafs make a mistake with Barrie?
2. Should they try and keep him?
3. What team do you think Tyson Barrie should sign with?
4. How much would you pay for Barrie?
1) YES
2) No
3) Devils
4) 5.5 - 6 mill

He was pretty good once he was used right. He will still get a good contract. I think the Leafs needs a different type of player.

I think within 1-2 years everyone will view Kerfoot as better than Kadri |

Toronto traded a homegrown and developed kid that put himself on the chopping block with leafs nation. The consecutive playoff suspensions sealed his fate. The GM picked up one of the top point producing Dmen, and a serviceable 3rd line center. Barrie was improperly utilized at first, but there is no doubt he is a skilled guy, and a lot of teams want a dman like that.. Carolina fell apart when they lost Hamilton because of how he starts their offense. T
TO still needs that, but also needs a shutdown type guy.
Kadri had poor numbers in his 3rd line role, and was ok in Colorado. Barrie and Kerfoot combined for more points than Kadri this year. Kerfoot will put up close to the same points Kadri did whilst in 3rd line duty.. Now consider the Cap savings..
Easy to say it was a big mistake, but I think it's much closer to a wash after looking at the #s, especially considering we got Rosen back |

Some of the fans and media have made Barrie the new Gardiner and scrutinize his every move on the ice. He wasn't a great defensive d-man and with the Leafs he wasn't delivering what they expected of him offensively. He isn't what the Leafs need on their defense. I don't think he will want to sign with the Leafs and look to having a fresh start elsewhere. |

2019-2020 Season:
Kerfoot: GP 65 G 9 A 19
Barrie: GP 70 G 5 A 34
Total: GP 135 G 14 A 53
Kadri: GP 51 G 19 A 17
Give me the .4 G/GP that Kadri produced over the .1 G/GP that both Barrie and Kerfoot produced. Not to mention the on ice leadership and sandpaper Kadri has provided the Avs.
Looking forward to having him for another full season. |

Dubas knew he had to improve the Leafs D and a go to checking C good on faceoffs. Instead he brought in Barrie and aging Spezza. Remember Tavares left the Isles because of Garth Snow's mistakes. He may want out now and he has a full NMC with an insane cap hit. So don't expect a good return for him. |

Of all the mistakes made by the Leafs, I don't think Spezza for a league minimum contract was one of them. Pretty big stretch to say Tavares wants out because they signed a league minimum contract for their 4th line and brought in a RD that is going to leave the team in the off season. |

I would look forward to Kadri too I regret him leaving, but understand why he had to. Too bad both Kerfoot and Barrie haven't worked out. |

While I could see the Leafs making the trade, to me, as far as Barrie goes, it just hasn't worked out. At the time of the coaching change going over the numbers on naturalstattrick, Cody Ceci was outperforming Barrie.
When Keefe took over, Barrie did see a spike in his production, but the past 15 to 20 games has seen him fall off somewhat. When you think of it, overall, for $2.75M he hasn't been terribly terrible. But, at double, or triple that salary. I don't think so.
Kerfoot, on the other hand, has not been bad at all. He is what I call a quiet player, someone that you don't notice a lot, either for all the right reasons, or all the wrong ones. He makes smart plays with the puck, but nothing flashy. He reminds me a little of Tyler Bozak.
As to the overall question as to who won the trade, before he was injured, Kadri was having a great season for the Avs. Someone commented that Kerfoot and Barrie together had accumulated more points than Kadri, which is true, to the tune of 65 pts to 36. But, if you look at their one ice goals for and against, Kadri has been on ice for 72 goals for, and only 34 against, an amazing 68% GF%. Barrie and Kerfoot have been on ice for 102 goals for, and a 106 goals against, or a combined GF% of
49%.
After this season, Barrie will be gone. Kerfoot may remain, but, if the cap does not go up, the Leafs are in dire need of cap space to, at the very least, sign Mikheyev and Dermott. Kerfoot, along with Kapanen, and Jonhsson, are the most likely candidates to be moved to create that space. Plus, they would have to be move for picks or prospects, and with the Leafs dealing from a position of weakness, they might not get good value for them. In the end the Leafs may have given up Nazem Kadri for whatever Kerfoot can bring them back in non-roster players. |

um they got kerfoot too and at a cheaper salary. kadri may be a bit better offensively but kerfoot is a quality player and i think his defensive metrics are a bit better too. on 3rd line duties they produce similar amount of points.
either way kadri for kerfoot and barrie isn't a bad trade. i'd argue that the leafs won that trade easily. they made the decision to keep barrie but if they had decided to trade him at the deadline instead, it would clearly show who won the trade. |

Avs got Kadri, under contract. Plus cap space.
Leafs got Kerfoot and a year of Barrie in which they could barely even hang onto a playoff spot.
Nice work Dubas!! |

I don't think he'll be back. Seemed pretty obvious that is was going to be one year with Barrie at his 2.75MM cap hit.
Going forward they'll have Rielly running PP1 and sure looks like Sandin will be able to run a PP next year.
I would bet that Barrie gets his payday somewhere else. Good amount of UFA RD this summer. Maybe the leafs pick up someone whenever free agents are free to sign |
