Exactly the type of player and situation you don't commit term and dollars to. Those deals for this type of player is exactly what cap straps most teams.
Rangers are in a position that's enviable to a lot of teams. Real top end talent. Collection of interesting, talented young players. Goaltending depth. Don't blow it by paying third liners like top 6 talent. |

Even if Strome is a product of Panarin and nothing else, it only makes sense to keep him. Panarin is under contract for another 6 seasons, why would you not want to keep Strome around for most of that time? Strome clearly is a better player around Panarin. He was a 60 point player, a good 2C behind Zibanejad. Unless strome is going to cost you over 6 million per year, there is ZERO reason to not keep him. |

Really, I think this question is a bit loaded because it is kind of ambiguous. Is Strome a ppg player ecause of Panarin? I won't deny that. Is Strome going to turn into a 30 point player if moved from that line? I honestly don't believe that's the case.
I feel like after the hype on him was a bit much last summer, this year we really aren't giving him enough credit. Last year I was one of the loudest ones saying what he did was a one year blip attributed to shooting percentage and all he did was shut me up by being a vital part of the offense over the course of the season. At this point he's been in a Ranger uniform for north of 100 games, and he's produced the entire time. At some point, we just have to give credit that this is probably who Strome the Ranger is. He's probably a minimum 45-50 point a year guy.
In terms of contract, we might have to sell high on him. After seeing the Hayes deal, chances are he is going to want something similar. I'm just not sure that we can make that sort of deal given the situation. Bridge contracts were made for players like Strome and that should be the path here IMO. If we do trade him, center becomes a glaring need for the team and you would have to get a center back. |

I’m firmly in the sell high on Strome camp. To my eye, he is the definition of a player you don’t go long on. Other warts aside, the guy is NOT a finisher. You put a sniper next to Panarin and it’s 40+ red lights every year. But, if I was GM, I’d go right to the expert witness for an opinion. Ask the breadman what he thinks, and heed his advice. |

I definitely think in cases like these you have to ask your star players. Trading any play let alone a linemate that just had a great year (unsustainable or not) doesn’t really send the message that their trying to build a winning team around you. |

Since you’re a flame fan, I brought up Monahan as a trade target for the Rangers. What would be their ask? I was thinking Strome, Hajek (although I’m not sure he’s a good enough prospect, maybe it would have to be Nils) and our earlier first rder.
Strome is a good player, but he sucks on faceoffs. Rangers as a team suck on faceoffs. That’s my main reason I’d want Strome gone, for a better player at center and better faceoff man.. Monohan is ideal imo. It’s just spitballing but someone I think the rangers should look into, him or Jenner from CBJ |

I just don't understand the theory that the Rangers will seek to trade Strome because what he is doing is "unsustainable" yet another team will overlook that and trade us a lot for him
like, how does that work exactly
if what he is doing is unsustainable and simply a product of playing with Panarin then his trade value sucks |

Personally I don’t think we should trade monahan because after having a bad year there’s no way we get fair value for him.
But if we were to I don’t think Strome would be the guy coming back. In any deal Calgary makes we would want a top six winger coming back. I would think it would take something like kreider/buchneivich plus a prospect or pick. |

Your right nobody is going to give you the value of a center that put up just under a 70 ppg over an 82 game pace. But GM’s will give you a hell of a lot more than what they would have a year ago.

Well aware, I’m just saying that’s what Calgary would want. I think the rangers would be an unlikely trade partner for monahan but I could do something like buchneivich, andersson and a draft pick depending on how high the pick is. |
