If the Rangers are out and buffalo is in it’s a total mockery. The rangers don’t play in a division with the two worst teams. It’s not sour grapes, it’s common sense. Rangers are one of the most exciting teams in the NHL, possibly the most exciting. They may not deserve to get in, but they certainly deserve to be in over buffalo

Considering that buffalo hadn't won a game in months before the lockdown they shouldn't be in just due to a hot start

I would agree, the Sabres don't deserve it. But again either do the Rangers.

Rangers are the #4 Wild card in the East and Sabers are #7. It's a 79 pt. team vs. a 68 pt team with Rangers NY having played 1 more game. It's a team with 36 ROWs vs. a team with 28. It's a team with +12 vs. a -22 goal differential.

I (frank)ing HATE the Rangers but if the league insists on expanding the number of playoff teams they deserve to be in over Buffalo or Montreal. Same thing with the Ducks.

Taking top 6 from the division is stupid. Either take it based on conference or wild card standing and add more wildcards.

They should start the playoffs 16 teams period. The 24 team scenario with divisions at least follows the league's playoff seeding format. If the NHL moves to 24 via conference they'd have to have a 3 team play-in (like ncaa mens BB) between MTL, Buffalo and NJ.

It would be complete insane to have a 24 team playoff and include even more teams to have a play-in. The play in is the regular season and that's done.

Then wait till the playoffs are over for the draft and have regular style lottery for the 7 teams that weren't in the playoffs. Knock it down to 1 or 2 lottery picks and seed as you normally would with lottery and draft results.

All of these ideas are stupid. Just let the Buzztron decide the Cup winner. Minnesota North Stars over Hartford Hurricanes in 8 games. Hurricanes had the vaccine factor but the North Stars had the Great Lakes factor. Bobby Smith won the Conn Smith. Yzerman was the GM for both teams. A young David Poile appeared on the bench for the deciding 8th game, so he has his name on the Cup. Ek defied social distancing rules and came on the ice for his 14th on-ice Cup celebration.

Yup. He was great. I kept laughing about how hard the team screwed him in the offseason and refused to give him a fair contract. But seriously he had a great season and it was a pretty exciting game. We got lucky you guys rushed Shesterkin back because he was clearly still recovering from that rib injury.

The league is in a tough spot because of how the season ended because there were a bunch of teams legitimately in position to contend for a playoff slot. So I think most folks agree expanding the playoffs is a pretty fair way to deal with that. Exactly how much and by what methodology is clearly debatable.
