Very classy move. When need more stories like this after five months of a year that's been the grotesque love child of a raging dumpster fire and a massive poop show. |

Die hard devils fan here and Bergeron has been one of my favorite players for almost a decade now. Class act. Boston is very lucky to have him. Bergy is the culture there and sets the standard. Hence why all the other guys took pay cuts. They followed Bergy’s lead. |

As a hockey fan, I've always loved the way Bergeron played. As a Habs fan, I always held the utmost respect for the man, and wished he were playing for my team. He's the polar opposite of a player like Marchand, and I'm glad he's there to even things out somewhat. More people need to do what he did: Stand up for what's right, even though its hard and goes against how you normally live your life. Good on you, Patrice, you're a shining example of how to be a community helper. |

Cleary if Z isn't there, he is captain. They are both equally deserving and whenever Z hangs up the skates Patrice will fill those big skates perfectly well. |

And if co-captains were allowed no doubt they would both be sporting the C already. |

When Pat inherits the "C", Marchy gets an "A". |

As much as we all want to see him with the C, I have no doubt Bergy still looks up to Z as HIS captain, ya know? Speaking of, Z was pictured joining the protests.
Very lucky to have grown up looking up to these two guys |

What's the new normal? Is everyone expected to weigh in now? What if someone doesn't? |

No, I’d agree the idea that every famous white athlete needs to speak out is ridiculous. That one writer ripping Crosby was a moron. I’ve been seeing articles condemning Belichick for not speaking out while Matthew Slater commended him for how he’s acted. It’s silly to expect every person with a platform to be an activist.
But when it comes from guys like Bergy and Chara it feels genuine and not forced. It IS genuine. These guys care and that’s a big reason why I love them |

Once one guy gets an arm twisted into saying something, then everyone will be expected to say something... Look at Drew Brees... Guy can't say he respects the flag... |

Everyone is entitled to be able to learn and grow. I think we could all stand to educate ourselves and be kind to one another.
Brees is a suitable example of someone looking at things from a different perspective.
Ignorance doesn't have to be an excuse anymore. |

If he had done something to address the discrimination against native Americans or first Nations, I'd probably think it was more legitimate. Seems to me, this is a knee jerk reaction to the current milieu and not something thought out.
I'm just surprised no one has made the connection that there was a president with one black parent and one white, for 8 years, and that if there was an opportune time to address any racial injustices, that would have been the time. Half black, half white President, who better to discuss the issue with?
It leads me to believe these riots are more about opportunism, and less about equality.
If he'd done this outside of this context and environment, it would have had a greater legitimacy imo. |

Nah. If Obama did that, he'd be accused of pushing his own agenda or something else stupid.
When would be a good time to stop the hate and violence, pink cat? |

Policing and police tactics can be discussed in a civil manner. I don't believe it's race specific what they do in law enforcement.
The riots need to be shut down and acts of violence against political opponents right away.
Hate... Never gonna stop. Somebody somewhere hates somebody else for some reason. Just need civil society to have the same set of rules enforced for everyone. |
