I'd say the question would be better phrased "Will he get *any better*?". *Bouncing* implies a fall and a flash in the pan's reprise would be more like a dead cat bounce.
what i mean is: I consider your starting goalie, at best, a dead cat that was (probably) killed by the flash. he stinks and is costing you dearly. |

The answer depends on whether he has two defensemen playing on his right side who suck at defense. The Sharks can cover for a Burns. But put Karlsson in there too and you have a real problem. Both play a ton. Both defend poorly. Their only chance is to possess the puck when either is on the ice. Left wings lick their chops when San Jose is on the menu. |

He can bounce back if they can start playing defense again. Between Burns and EK. He was hung out to dry all season. |

If Nabby can work some kind of magic perhaps, but two seasons in a row of consistently awful play and noticeable breakdowns in his physical abilities, I wouldn’t bet on it unfortunately. |

The correct answer is : It Depends....
It depends on whether Martin has gotten enough rest during this pandemic. He had played the most minutes of any goalie the past few years, and going deep into the playoffs din't help the rest and recovery phase.
It depends on whether Jones is able to adapt to today's game and become technically proficient at his position. I have heard a few hockey gurus point out his weaknesses and have described him as barely being able to be an NHL goalie.
It depends on what the team defense looks like as well as who the D men are. Losing Dillon doesn't help; losing Braun didn't help since he was more adept at the defensive side than Ferraro who, while he will be a very good NHL D man; is more offensive minded and also less experienced. Burns absolutely sucks on D and while EK65 has deficiencies in his D game; at least he hustles back to try to cover them up as opposed to Burns whose reaction time is often a couple of seconds before he figures out where he should be and what he is doing.
Tim Heed has some upside in his game and it will be interesting to see how the two Russians they drafted last year develop when play resumes for everyone. And I should add: It depends...on what the salary cap is for the next two seasons and how much room to maneuver Doug has to work with.. |
