Jeremy Laura: Svechnikov extended

It's $hit or get off the pot time for Svech. All I've heard for 5 years is how great of a person he is. How hard he works. That's fine. But let's not forget Holland drafted him over Sebastian Aho. That's not Svech's fault. You shouldn't get to play in the NHL just because you're a great person and you work hard.

Best case scenario he becomes a decent third line winger who can score 15 goals a season. Worst case scenario he gets injured once again and his Red Wings career is done. I hope he does well and remains healthy enough to afford himself the opportunity to prove himself. But I've been down this road too many times with this kid so I'm not holding my breath.

You’re not wrong G. There are some tough disappointments in players Detroit passed on. And yep, it’s a “meritocracy” in the NHL. You have to take someone else’s job, and someone will eventually take yours. The third line projection seems reasonable until or unless he proves differently. If Rasmussen sticks around, those two are probably together on that line.

We’ll see what this year brings. But, just as people are saying about Pujuljarvi, we can only go off what we’ve seen and not what we think could happen.

going to be a long year nonetheless. But, its getting better in terms of players arriving. Theyll have who they have at #4 who probably wont play right away but they do have Zadina/Seider arriving on the roster. They are still inching closer and closer to the expiring of the Nielsen/Abdelkader contracts

Me too. I hope Givani gets a real opportunity. Blashill's incessant line juggling kills these young forwards confidence. I believe a player has to take responsibility for succeeding or failing. But Blashill certainly doesn't help them maximize their potential. Holland took Givani Smith one pick ahead of Carter Hart. 😭

I screamed for Hughes as well but it's over and done with. I still think Zadina can be a very good scoring winger for this team. The Chychrun fiasco was a (frank) up but at least we got Hronek with the extra pick. I never liked the Rasmussen pick. Bertuzzi has been a nice surprise.

Helen St James loved that kid too. It’s been tough. I was concerned when, after drafting Mantha they drafted Svech and Ras. It seemed like they were ignoring the direction the league was going (that may be a horrible opinion). Yzerman has bucked the trend a bit and hoping for some pleasant surprises this year

Smith is a straight-up stud. I worry about all the haphazrd lines JB throws out....kinda like throwing stuff against a wall; whatever sticks is art. Smitty hits like a Michigan sugar-beet truck and is a wall deep in the O zone. He's one of those guys that you have to love; grit is off the charts.
PLEASE bury Abbey & bring Smitty up for good 🙏🙏

Zadina has the potential to be a super-star. Incredible pick. Just needs a touch more time in the incubator to finish cooking, then he'll be off the chain. The image of him potting no-look, top-shelf goals helps me sleep well at night. Just needs a bit more polish. Between Bert, Larkin, Mantha....and Zadina.... the core looks better than Paige VanZant's abs 😎😎 No, can someone dish up a dang goalie?!?!?!?

Ras and Cholo aren't busts. Not to mention if Hedda used that pick for Chy, I don't follow Coyotes but am confident he isn't an elite DMan, we wouldn't have Hronek who's prolly put up more points in his one season than Chy in all of his.
