From goat to hero
If Canucks had not scored to win the game, the goat of the game would have been Markstrom. I love Marky but O'Reilly's soft goal at the end of a period in which they played their asses off only to find themselves down by one, devastated the team. The team's effort at the start of the second period reflected this feeling. The real stars of the game, in my opinion, were Hughes, Pettersson and Miller, who showed leadership and drive and got the team turned around. If not for this extraordinary effort by these three players, Marky would have been the goat. Am I right? |

I got so tired of listening about ROR yesterday I ended up skimming through posts and turning down the radio in the car. I said yesterday and say again today go out and play your best game and I like our chances.
I am still not a fan of Motte on the fourth line but I don't mind him as a energy guy with more skilled players on a third line. I want a bigger body to bang on the fourth line.
If we do get by this round I think it is a good tune up for the next round because Vegas has some big bangers on that team. |

Good stuff, thanks Carol! I thought they were done, getting nothing offensively from anyone other than Pettersson and Miller in games three and four, but Green mixed it up and shuffled some guys around, which was great to see.
In 2011 the players back then said they don’t get to the finals without the contributions from their third line, that still stands true for any team hoping to make a run at the Stanley Cup. |

Thanks Carol.
A few games back, Miller went to the bench shaking his hand, might have something of an issue with it.

I know, I had the same reaction, wasn’t sure which wasn’t wrong, that a bunch of super stars missed the playoffs of if Pettersson could ask for $10m |

I think a lot of GMs are going to question big signings for a few more years even past the flat cap. Look at Tor and Edm both teams pretty well crippled by the cap.

I don’t mind Motte as a player. He’s the kind of guy you need in bottom 6. Works hard, a bit of crash and bang, can score an odd goal or two. Like you, I would like some bigger bodies, but if his cost stays low I’m good with signing him. If this run makes him a $1.7m player I pass. |

Yeah I think they will re-sign him too . Like I said I would rather use him to energize two scoring players on a third line. Definitely needs to be a lot lower than 1.7

Much like the Sedin and Ryan Kesler era, the second and third lines are discombobulated, hopefully that can be addressed sooner than later.
Id like to see Motte on the third line, he’s got great wheels and some offensive talent. |

I disagree. GM’s won’t be able to help themselves. Player contracts will continue on the same path, maybe without as much increase, but escrow will will limit the actual dollars paid. Players will still want to be compensated in line with their peers. So Peter Angelo is going to get a 6 or 7 year deal (or 8 with the Blues) and the AAV is going to be Doughty like. |

I don’t think the Oilers are crippled by the cap anymore than the Canucks are, they’ve arguably got two of the best players in the league playing for them so they’re going to take up 20 million between them, the rest of their lineup it’s just a bunch of journeyman players that’s their issue.
Agree on Toronto though, they’ve got three 10 plus million dollar forwards, Edmonton only has one. |

I will grab my popcorn for that one. I think he will get term but I think it will be 8 mil. A team would be nuts to give him 12 |
