Any relation to Sebastian Maniscalco? That's one funny dude. |

I was surprised this was so positive. Don't think I'd use the Dumo comp though I appreciate the point.
Stevens only got an AHL deal, so I wouldn't sweat that. Getting a drafted player on an AHL deal is kind of a no-brainer. (I don't expect him to amount to anything either). |

Yohe on Reiden:
Ran the power play very well in Pittsburgh. Sid loved how he ran it. Also worked well with many defensemen. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Penguins were to offer an invitation to join their coaching staff. |

I forget, were both Tocchet and Reirden on the staff together?

No, he was fired with Bylsma, Tocchet came on right after. |

Reirdon could be good to get back, won't be a yes man and if Sid liked the way he ran the PP then do it haha. |

Ah... the wishful thinking to replace JJ with a super cheap option.
Isn't RW's optimism just adorable? |

Losing Addison kind of sucks at this point if it weren’t for the Maniscalco signing. At least we have a prospect to look forward too. Old ruwhedal better look out haha. Moot point as long as JJ is on the team but at least it saves almost 5mil over schultz.
I think asset management is critical for the teams continued success if they don’t want to go back to early 2000’s times and tank for draft picks for a few years. Whoever mentioned Haula last blog I think is a good idea. His big injury was a knee thing like schultz had and it’s been some time to assess how it will affect him. That could allow McCann to be flipped for assets. Same with petts. Sign Dillon or another decent second pairing left D and trade petts for assets. I don’t like petts personally but he is a decent young dman and a decent cap hit with no health issues. Flat cap teams might need someone like him. Flames for example who have many D ufa’s although they need righty’s. Same with McCann. Young rfa with potential who has shown he can play well at times.
If any prospect like Poulin, Légaré, hallander, show they can be competent at even a 4th line roll I’d trade out any of our bottom 6 for picks/prospects with the exception of maybe tanev for a year or two.. unless someone really values him. Even a 4th rounder was getting decent value last trade deadline. |

Personally Marino makes moving Addison very easy. Addison was the top prospect pre-Marino and Addison showed he was still a good year or two away from making a push in the NHL. |

Marino certainly makes it easier and I agree Addison wasn't close to helping.
But I don't think we have a future PP QB so Addison might have filled a role there as well as 2nd pair someday. When the rebuild starts, that's the type of guy we might wish we had, not that trading him wasn't the right move. |

He was a ways away but with our prospect pool even if he could of pushed for a 3rd pairing role this year would of been nice. Hopefully Maniscalco can push for that. I guess a benefit of no prospects though for college players is the chance to make it sooner. If the cupboards were full maybe he picks elsewhere. At least we’re back to one righty prospect though lol |

I think Marino could handle it eventually. They need to try him out a little. Honestly wouldn't be against Letang in the left Circle and Marino at the point. Then Sid down low on the right side, Geno up high right side and either Guentz or Rust in the slot. Kinda like the Caps setup with Ovi, Carlson, Oshie, Backstrom and Kuz. Another reason I'd bring Reirdon back. Maybe he'll try a setup like that. |

Might not now but that could be the type of player they get with #15. Remember too, there will always be free agency options. You could make the case that Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Barrie and Vatanen could all be better than Letang as a QB.
That said, I'd worry about getting guys in the pipeline like Letang who are solid in all situations. Remember, Pouliot was supposed to be a powerplay specialist but Maata ended up the much better player. |

That scouting team should be fired as a whole. |

Not a bad idea. Not sure how I feel about 2 D on the PP and while a great passer, Letang's shooting ability seems to have gone downhill. Marino does seem comfortable in that role, though, and he is a smart player. |

Maybe Marino can. No way of knowing because he didn't do it in college or in the pros yet. That's generally not a good sign when so many guys who are PP QBs at that level fail, but he's defied expectations so far.
Letang isn't much of a shooting threat, so putting him in the Ovi spot won't get the same results. He'd actually either miss the net a lot or pass up shots judging by how he usually does on the PP.
But Reirdon being a guy who might give the PP a fresh look is still a good point. |

True on 15 though in this draft they're more likely to get a different type of prospect like a top 6 center. They might be reaching if they take a defenseman.
I actually agree on having a preference for well-rounded prospects. Think they got guys like that already though in Marino, Pettersson, and POJ. Maniscalco and Reilly fit that profile too But you're right, no guarantee Addison worked out and there are other ways to get one.
Sometimes that guy is hard to fond though. Think how long the Rangers tried to replace Leetch and all the bad deals they made along the way. Eventually we'll have a checklist of key roles, but that's a problem for a year or two later. |

Oh I'm not expecting Ovi results haha, just saying they can try that look. |

Caps PP has been bad for a few months going into Coronavirus. Setup is fine, entry is god awful. |

I was going to say the same. Even when they do finally get a setup it's really easy to defend. |

I think you are right, though Sanderson could possibly fall. I wish there was a way to trade up for Drysdale as I think he is going to have a Makar like impact (likely not quite as good though). Would likely need to go to #5 for that and I don't think they have the juice.
But yes, likelt going to grab one of the centers. |
