Seems like a pretty big cap hit for minimal production.
More of 3rd line chkng F than someone to spend that kind of money on.

Too easy to look at what the Leafs have.
They have skill, they have speed and they can score.
What they don't have is what needs to be addressed.
They do not have a strong defensive presence. Not enough forwards play a 200' game. They are unable to shut down another team that goes three strong lines deep. Mostly they lack grit.
Marner, Nylander, Kapananen and Johnsson are variation in degrees of skill that are the same player. All good players, but how many does one team need? |

I would rather trade Kapanen or Nylander than Johnson. He is a game breaker and a clutch playoff performer. Checking out his stats, particularly in the playoffs, gives you a sample. Having seen him play, in both the AHL and NHL playoffs, no way I move him as he is one player who could quite easily turn into another Steve Sullivan situation. |

With Kap, I was underwhelmed (if that’s a word)
He’s too inconsistent. I love angry, fired-up Kap tho. He has to bring that everynight, but he can’t seem to do it consistently. |

Was kidding around on the Oilers thread and Wildschwein said Klefblom, Koskinen, RNH for Ander10n, Nylander, Kerfoot.
It is actually kind of interesting, but when the Ander7en and RNH contracts run out in 2021, (The Leafs couldn't afford to re-sign either) it boils down to Klefblom and Koskinen for Kerfoot and Nylander and *maybe* Anderten if the Oilers re-sign him.
So, past 1 year, I think the Leafs could maybe do better unloading Nylander, Kerfoot and Andersdone separately. |

Yes. Some nights you love him out there, other nights he is pretty much invisible.
I would *hope* that is a culture problem in that room and that, somehow, it is changed.
Sounds like the Leafs still believe in this core. Let's see how that works out for them. |

I would like to see the Leafs package Andreas Johnsson & Travis Dermott for a top 4 defence man.
Kapanen is a quality pk guy and he has developed an edge.
If they resign Spezza and/or bring in Joe Thornton I would be try to trade Alex Kerfoot as well.
The challenge is that I can not see many tough top 4 defence being available.
Some names that could be available: Jake Bean, David Savard, Matt Dumba etc.
Or trade them for picks and go after a free agent. Alex Pietrangelo, Torrey Krug, Brendan Dillen, Chris Tanev, Travis Harmonic etc. |

Probably, and I can't see Toronto wanting Koskinen, Anderson is more consistent. Not to mention, that the Leafs only save 2 million in cap space, yet get significantly older.

This is what I’ve been saying they should do next year - create a number of bubbles and rotate all the games through them. The only difference is I’d set up regional bubbles, using Wedgie’s suggestion of a Canadian division since the border might not be operable.
