thanks, but no thanks, come playoff time the canes need someone who will not allow a cheap, momentum turning goal. andersen is better than peter but to go to the next level the canes need a top net minder. they have the depth to do better on the open market |

I think you'd maybe want one of the guys in Pittsburgh over Freddy. |

I think the point in this trade is to get a sure fire starter plus only having to pay him 1 Million next season during a pandemic where over half the league will operate on a player budget.
Where as Lehner and Holtby goalies will take 6/7 M deals while the rich teams can offer them SB and front loaded deals. |

If you can move out Reimer or Mrazek's salary and Dundon opens his wallet, you could make a strong play for Lehner or Markstrom. That said its a buyers market on goalies so I dont think there will be many teams asking for Reimer or Mrazek at 3 million. |

The Kapanen trade showed what actual salary is worth the next few years.
Budget teams will be all over Freddy and I believe CAR is a fit in that regard.
Paying that 12 M to Aho is hurting the wallet. |

What's hurting the wallet was the pandemic putting a halt on the TopGolf IPO. |

Probably only cost you Fleury and a third or something like that . Leafs needing cap room wouldn’t have all that much leverage and I don’t think to many teams will be as interested to give up that kind of package |

What do you think the canes are doing on D next year? They've got Hamilton, Pesce, Skjei, Slavin, and Gardiner signed for next year right now.
Edmunson, Vatanen, and TVR as UFAs. Fleury as an RFA who I assume they definitely re-sign.
Do you think they're bringing back any of the UFAs?
When are Bean and Keane going to force their way up? Seems like they might have earned it by now?
A few more guys in the A who seem like they could be #7 or 8 on the depth chart and fill in if needed.
Just a stacked back-end all the way through the system. At some point someone has to be moved I would think and then also probably lose someone to Seattle next summer. |

Fluery, Hamilton and Dzingle for Nylander and Freddy |

This only makes sense for the Canes if they’re dumping one of their existing goalies in the deal. And I’m not sure why the Leafs would take on that $$.
This could end up being Freddie for a young d-man and a pick. Then Dubas splurges on a goalie or a d-man in free agency |

"On top of that, trading has generally been an area of strength for Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas and seeing what he was able to get for Kasperi Kapanen, I’m a bit worried the Hurricanes would be set up to overpay for Andersen."
Maybe you didn't see Dubas's return in the Kadri deal. Brutal! |

Interesting choice.
I'm kind of surprised Andersen would be traded for but I guess that million in salary is really attractive. |

Ben Shelley: Hurricanes are reportedly interested in Frederik Andersen - Ben.Shelley
Freddy is an awesome goalie playing for one of the weakest defensive teams in the league. But.....realistically why would you not target Lehner/Markstrom/Khubodin. I assume Holtby stays put, but those three could very well be on the move next season. Better to land one of those boys then to give up assets. |

If I were upgrading I would go for Lehner who has been one of the best for the past two years. Holtby is scary as hell, Andersen only has one year left on his contract and is three years older than Lehner. Unfortunately I believe there will be half a dozen teams looking at Lehner. Carolina, Edmonton, Calgary, Vegas, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Detroit, Buffalo. Hell that is nine teams that Lehner would be an upgrade on. Not sure Rask is returning to Boston or what kind of a reception he may receive, Fleury could be replaced by Lehner or moved to another team. Can't see Lehner leading the Knights to a cup and not coming back?? Gonna be exciting Also who is going to draft Askarov ?? |

I think it is time for Jake Bean to arrive on the scene. Best dman in the AHL and ready to shine. Wish there was a way to dump Gardiner. Canes should really go after Robin Lehner and they would be set. |

Seems like most good starters have a period of 3 to 4 years that they put up phenomenal numbers, and then slide back to the pack. Usually this is right after they get a big contract. Add in the uncertainty of what will happen due to COVID, I'd be hesitant to give up a big piece for Anderson. |

I didn't get the impression that Khudobin liked it in Carolina much when he played here as heir apparent to Cam Ward. He would not be on the top of my list. |
