A new deal for Brodie shouldn't break the bank either. I'd rather they give him a new deal. |

And going to Minnesota is___________?????? Fill in the blank(s)
This is a Rumors website - don't just name some good players and say "get them". Provide some thoughts on what it might take to get them - that's what gets the juices flowing!

Not bad
Upgrade at forward
Upgrade at defense
Upgrade at goal
Dumba more than replaces Hanifin
Nylander more than replaces Monahan
Like Markstrom
Don’t know much about Kunin
Really like Greenaway from Min and he’d look good on that 3rd line.
We’re banking big on valimaki
We’re hoping Giordano rebounds

I am sure glad you aren't the GM, why would you trade Monohan for Dumba. - FlamesFan1230
Must've missed the part where we also add the RH-22year old who scored 15g in 63 games (~20g per 82) from similar spots that Monny would score in the same trade.
Add in that other nobody who can also score 30g and has wicked hands...
At least try to be constructive instead of missing half of the trades |

Kunin is quite good, shoots right, and scores from a similar area as Monny ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuGaudEx13g)
Greenway is dope but hasn't done enough yet stats-wise. Looks like another Bennett.

Well any talk of Monahan to Buffalo is now moot. Too bad. |

Yikes. Pretty awful and/or unrealistic across the board.
You really think Markstrom deserves to be to 4th highest paid goalie in the league with zero seasons of 920 save percentage?

UFAs gonna UFA. Can't expect to get an elite goalie on the market for free without paying term+$
The alternative is trading assets - pick your poison. |

I have better things to do but no way in hell the Wild are trading Kunin who is 22 and has progressed in production in the years. |

The Flames and Wild do match up well as trade partners. The Wild are long 1D, the Flames 1F with the 3D, 7F expansion draft protection formula in mind.
I propose Dumba, Kunin, #9 for Mony, Mang, Kylington and #19. Kunin does have big time potential, right shot, 197 lbs and has a long history playing with Chucky. This deal assumes Lucic waives his NMC, the Flames would make a side deal to expose GIO to Seattle and protect Dumba, Ras & Hanifin. |

In what world is Markstrom an elite goalie? He was 27th in GAA, 15th in svpct, and lost his job in the playoffs.
Complain about the Flames goalies all you want, but they still gave up less goals than the Canucks. It's not like the Flames are an amazing defensive team either. Stick with Talbot and Rittich if the other option is paying Markstrom 35 million, or 30 million, or 25 million, or 20 million.
Talbot had better numbers than Markstrom last year except games played, and Talbot could easily handle 50 games at this point. |

Look at his team and the shots they gave up...guy should get a medal |

WTF he got hurt after facing 60 shots a game...guy got them in the playoffs and beat the Blues himself

So does that make the Flames goalies also elite, or does the one extra shot per game make all the difference? |

Personal opinion - don't think Markstrom is worth $7+M a season - maybe $6M though. Agree with many of the points above, but I think there's also a reason to suggest that Talbot or Rittich in that system would have fared measurably worse than Markstrom last year...
Canucks allowed the 4th most shots against, which in itself, isn't telling. They were however the 10th worst team when it came to high danger chances allowed where the Flames were the 9th best team.
Interestingly enough though, despite being 9th best at allowing high danger chances, the Flames goalies allowed the 5th fewest goals in that category. Big Save Dave is a legit thing. The bad part of that though is how many "softies" they allowed as those accounted for 57% of the goals scored against the Flames this year.
Vancouver allowed the same number of regular season goals, 214, as the Flames this year. Markstrom and Demko allowed fewer "easy" goals and were generally scored upon at a higher rate when a high danger chance presented itself to their opponent.
His High Danger Save % is actually almost identical to Rittich and is markedly high than Talbot's. BSD allows a lot more easy goals than Markstrom does all things considered.
Soft goals can kill a team. For that reason, I'd take Markstrom over either Talbot or Rittich - not sure how much that's worth in the end. |

Tre better be walking away from Gus. Anything over 2 million would be an albatross of a contract and I still haven't forgiven him for signing Stone (TWICE! ).
Find a good 5/6 dman looking for a contract (use pto/ato's if we need). We can't afford to spend a lot of money on a dman, and despite what the media is saying the Flames do not need "upgrades" to the blueline.
Gio Valimaki
Hanifin Rass
Kylington 5/6 replacement player
depth signing/stockton guys
I would be very comfortable with our top 4 and I think our bottom pairing could be pretty good if we find a defensively sound guy to play with Kylington (the kid has skill, just needs a real chance-- not playing with (frank)ing Michael Stone!)

Largely ok with this, but would peel out Valimaki down to the 3rd pairing, left side - bring back Brodie for top pair OR go nab an equivalent via trade/FA. By the end of next season, we should have a new top pairing emerging... Gio needs to move down lineup at some point and I think Ras needs top pairing minutes to see if he can take on that load sans Gio.

Walking from Gus is the right call.
We need a right D that brings some physicality like Hamonic brought. Would also resign Brody for the right price/term.... like it or not he can take big minutes.
Damn we need a good goalie too - I am not a huge Cam Fan. |
