I know I am biased on my opinion about Soucy, as he played at UMD, but I'm glad that he is signed for another 3 years. Though he will never be confused with an all-star player, Soucy brings the type of game that every team needs. He brings all-out effort whenever he is on the ice. Part of championship caliber teams is the role players and how effective they are in their given roles. We all know that Soucy is not a top pairing d-man, and that he will have his moments when filling in on a 2nd pairing. But his game and skill set will keep him in the NHL for a decent career, as he will give you maximum effort and play at 3rd pairing. Honestly, the role of a 3rd pairing D is partly just to give the top 2 pairings a breather. He now has his role set as 3rd pairing and now knows what specific role he will have to bring.

And the contract? 3 years ago the Wild signed Pateryn to a 3yr deal for $2.25 mil/year at 27. Soucy is 26 and I 100% believe he is $500k/year better than Pateryn. If Soucy plays for the Wild for another 6-7 years, which I think he will, people will see the type of player and teammate that he is.

Pretty much have nowhere else to go but up. And it looks like Dubnyk is now gone as well. So addition by subtraction is a step in the right direction right now. The trade of Dubnyk is basically a better price-wise buyout, and turning a 7th rd draft pick into a 5th rd draft pick. Dubnyk was not going to be in nets for the Wild this next season, so instead of buying him out and paying him for 2 years, they pay him for 1 and improve a draft pick. So far, that improves the Wild.

An easier way of saying this is the Wild saved $400k in his buyout, removed the $833k cap hit for the 2nd year and turned a 7th rd pick into a 5th rd pick. All improvements.

Soucy is getting some serious dough now. Haven't seen much, but is the big boy worth 2.75M AAV? And I always say this on your Wild thread, but I am excited to see Kaprizov on the small ice!!!

Seems like he's more interested in just shuffling the deck more than anything else right now. If I'm an opposing GM, I'm definitely chatting with him often since he has an itchy trigger finger right now,

Oh my, this is spinning into a weird direction. Good for a rebuild! But weird and unexpected

Guerin is going to do a great job. Already off to a good start with 3 1sts in the next 2 drafts and after this season he will have a blank slate of forwards basically.

I think he is going to trade Dumba to Toronto for the #15, Lilgegrin plus Kerfoot or Johansson (sp). Amazing job moving Dubnyk, now he can weaponize more cap space.

Looking at one step backward this year and 5 steps forward in 2021.

Dumba for a 1st round pick? That is a far fetch, but crazier things have happened with this team. Like the time we traded away Brent Burns(Possible hall of famer) for Devin Setoguchi (Alcoholic burn out), Charlie Coyle (Over rated mediocre 3rd liner), and Zach Phillips (who never made the team)! Oh, and a we gave a draft pick, 4th rounder I believe. So ya, Dumba for a 15th overall might be fantastic deal!!!
