A couple 4hr charter flights puts them at a disadvantage? I don't agree in the slightest...
Happy to remove multiple games v Bruins, Lightning, Panthers, and Sabres who always give Leaf fits... and replace them with with Vancouver - worse than last year, Winnipeg - should have the type of team that tough on Leafs, but never seems to be the case... Flames and Oilers - likely toughest of bunch... not mentioning Habs or Sens because they are both trash, and Leafs would play them in a normal year anyway.

I agree. Unless I’m missing something. Which is definitely a possibility with me. 🥴. Firstly, wouldn’t the western teams have to travel the same distance eastern? I assume that they would smartly arrange schedules so that teams start far east/west & then work their way back home. Secondly, all teams are used to road swings in the opposite conference. This concept doesn’t seem to be too far off that to which they would already be accustomed. |

Yup.
This really works to the Leafs advantage, because the Leafs are better than most all Canadian teams. |

But there are 5 bubble playoff teams.
Who cares if they don’t have to face the 2 best teams in the NHL the last 3 seasons anymore. |

I love bellyaching for bellyaching’s sake, but it doesn’t really matter if we like the Canadian division.
The ‘rona is raging across North America.
The border isn’t going to magically open in the next four months. |

A Canadian division would be an advantage because the Leafs would beat all those teams senseless and get the first overall seed for the playoffs. |

The League could schedule games such that travel is minimized. For Example, Toronto could go on a road trip and Play WIN, EDM, CAL, VAN, VAN, EDM, CAL, WIN and then back home. An 8 game road trip is not ideal but it could reduce travel times. They could even go back to back in each city WIN, WIN, EDM, EDM, CAL, CAL, VAN, VAN. That would reduce it even more. Given they would only play 6 teams all season (until the playoffs), they have lots of flexibility in scheduling. Not like the arenas will be hard to schedule as concerts and other events will be limited and the NBA Raptors will be playing out of the US most likely (as will the Jays). |

Disadvantage, how? The Leafs only have 4 time zone differential teams to play on the road:
- 1 Jets
- 2 Flames/Oilers
- 3 Canucks
Compare that to Canucks & Jets, who have to play all their road games with a time zone differential.
Canucks
+ 1 Flames / Oilers
+ 2 Jets
+ 3 Leafs/Sens/Habs
Jets
- 2 Canucks
- 1 Flames/Oilers
+ 1 Leafs/Sens/Habs
I am a Leafs fan and I certainly can't complain about an all Canadian division for travel.

Truly pathetic blog.
Maybe some Leafs fans will use this as the excuse for not winning the Cup this upcoming season, but I'm betting most will be just fine with their team having 4 hour chartered flights and avoiding the best 8 teams in the NHL for the regular season. |

Can you please explain to me how Toronto is at a disadvantage over Vancouver?
Montreal and Ottawa are both much closer to Toronto than Calgary and Edmonton are to Vancouver. Vancouver changes time zones on every away game.
If anything I'd say the east has an advantage over everybody except for possibly the Alberta teams. |

The Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Ottawa Senators would be at a distinct disadvantage in a seven-team all-Canadian division if clubs are traveling to cities for games instead of hubs/bubbles for a series of games since four clubs (Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver) would require Toronto to fly lengthy distances multiple times if the schedule was strictly within the division.
Welcome to the life of every Western conference team in a regular season. If Calgary isn't playing any Western conference team they have to deal with this "disadvantage".
Not to mention the constant change in elevation.

Toronto will have to peddle uphill to get to Calgary.
Calgary to Toronto is downhill.
That's a huge disadvantage for Toronto. |
