In the case of Holtby, it's worth noting that the drop-off in his numbers coincided pretty closely with Korn leaving Washington and going to the Isles. There's something to be said for the impact of truly great goalie coaches like Korn and- while not quite as well thought of- Vancouver's has a solid reputation. I wouldn't be surprised if Holtby saw a bounceback of sorts with some limitation on account of the Canucks' less-than-ideal defensive play. |

Todd Cordell: Examining the worst move made by each Canadian team - ToddCordellCGY
The Domi for Anderson trade, followed by the 7 year extension made me cringe. I am impartial to both teams, but Anderson has not played good hockey in 2 years, and is fresh off of major surgery. I don't like this gamble. Edmundson is a good D, at a slight over payment. I don't mind it, and it looks like a gamble similar to Chiarot, who had a very strong season. Anderson essentially could be the final straw to break Bergevains back.
As for the Holtby deal, I don't mind it. The guy has done enough in his career to earn the befenfit of a down season. They were in a very tough position with Markstrom and Demko, and now they have a proven vet to shelter their future deal. That being said, they really didn't leave Todd with many options, as their only other addition seemed to be Schmidt, who is well worth it. |

I stopped believing in Todd and his fancy math after the Flames signed Brouwer. Todd said it was going to be a disaster. Could not have been farther from the truth!
When are we retiring Brouwers jersey?

Also, called the Neal trade a loss. Hopefully a couple years after he retires so he won’t have to wait too long. |

With all the bolded being within reach of one another that a significant injury on either team would shift them around.
CGY's main improvement comes at a notoriously fluid position and will be relying on Tanev's health to hold-up the right side depth behind Andersson. Then there's three teams that ought to have potent offenses (though I set Vancouver's as a step below the other two) but all have at least one significant deficiency in their team's defensive zone construction:
EDM has Smith, is relying on Jones to step up, and Bear to not regress
VAN has ?s in goal, suspect blueline depth, and can't have Hughes slump
WPG has to hope for their prospects can support their NHL Dmen
For clarity, I give CGY the edge over these three since they're relying on more proven commodities at key positions. At the very least, there are 5 teams that will likely see themselves involved in a disproportionately large number of high-scoring games, so it should be fun at least!
How about you? Where do you stand on how these teams stack up? |

It’s telling that, in a list of Bergevin’s worst moves, the 7-year contract to Anderson and the trade of a 2nd round pick for a back-up goalie in the most flooded goalie market in league history didn’t make the list

Chevy is a disappointment, sorry but the guy gets way too much credit, is given tons of rope cause he's the GM of a team that yes struggles to attract free agents and is on most no trade lists but for f*ck sakes it's not like every player in the league has trade protection! He EASILY could've made the D.Toews or R.Murray trades but nope he just sat on the sidelines like he usually does, his drafting outside of the 1st round has been really weak(and overrated) and his biggest blunder so far has been his mishandling of Laine, when the smallest market team in the league has a superstar dropped in their lap their GM should be doing whatever it takes to sign him long term and keep him happy but nope Chevy is too busy taking another Dayoff at the cottage!
I'll give his offseason moves a D+ grade, coming back with essentially the exact same D core is pathetic. |

Agreed. Terrible use of cap space for a team that is not being favored to make the playoffs. |

Hey man. Glad all is going well for you.
To tell you the truth every team has question marks for me.
Montreal looks to be the sleeper. Their young guys can just play and have fun. No expectations. Price will be in top form.
Toronto has too much pressure. They will slide. Brodie will get eaten alive by the TO media.
Edmonton made some good moves. McD will be unstoppable. Smith will be the starter by mid season and then lose his mojo with 1/4 of the season left.
Calgary. Hoping that they can break p the top line and that JG and SM can find mojo with other players. I also expect Gio to have a bounce back season.
Van looks good. They play hard and have good young talent.
Winnepeg should also be in most games but their D is pretty weak.
My list.

Duran I think you are on crack or to much South American Tang has got you messed up.
Calgary- Top Line will rebound, a legit #1 goaltender
Toronto- A toss up between Edm and TO for second, which team outscores better
Edmonton
Vancouver Goaltending will be a issue
Winnipeg Darkhorse depending if they are healthy
Montreal (frank) Montreal they suck a donkey Richard
Ottawa Senators might surprise

Hey FF,
Every team has question marks. I hope we see the end of JG and SM on the same line. Has not worked for over a season now. They can play together on the PP.
I think Edmonton will do better than TO. TO is just too toxic with the fans and media.
Montreal and Van really have no high expectations and have good youth. Kinda like how things were in Calgary till they finished first,
