Bowen Byram will be in the minors until injuries or a trade open a roster spot in the NHL. Colorado's top 6 are set currently and Byram isn't suited to filling a Black Ace role sitting on the bench practising but waiting for an injury to get a chance to play he needs to play and play a ton and that opportunity doesn't exist on this team today.
Trades are going to be extremely difficult to make due to the serious cap issues in play because HRR has been gutted by the pandemic, the pandemic and needing to quarantine for 2 weeks if you travel, and the shortened condensed schedule.
Colorado's top 6 today are.
Girard, Johnson.
Graves, Makar.
Toews, Cole.
I assume Timmins will slot in at 7 but like Byram, he isn't suited to sitting for long periods as a Black Ace. Might Colorado sit Cole consistently to get Timmins or Byram ice time today? Maybe but I think it more likely they sign a UFA Dman at the league min to serve in that role or promote MacDonald or Renouf to serve in those roles.
With the condensed schedule rotating a Dman with Cole again is possible but I think Timmins gets the 1st look. With Colorado's D there is no reason to rush Timmins nor Byram. Had they not traded for Toews there was a roster spot at D in Colorado but it is gone now until an injury hits or a trade is made. I think Byram will see a few games but Colorado doesn't burn off a year of arbitration and NHL contractual rights on Byram.
Byram is going to be a stud, and when Colorado loses a Dman to Seattle in expansion he will step straight into the NHL in 21/22 full time. |
