Huge Steen fan although I was sad to Stempniak leave all those years ago. Steen was instrumental on the 4th line during the cup run.

Really sad to see him broken down. According to reports, it looks like he has multiple levels of herniated disks in his back. It kept him to one game in the playoffs unfortunately.

Crazy that the Laine rumour is back in the news. I wonder if guys like Toews, Keith, Doughty are involved. We haven't heard about them in awhile. Gaudreau for Laine would work since they don't have to cross borders and quarantine. Any update on Barzal's dreams of going to LA or has that died down to an E3? Can't wait for the first domino to fall. The crazy thing is we just don't know who it is.

Laine is not going to be traded at this time as Chevy has 3 more years of control before he becomes an UFA so why sell low on Laine now.

Trying to imagine how Hoffman or Laine would fit into a Craig Berube coached team...

I'm just not sure where we'll fit him in the line up after adding both Patches and Marchessault.

You'd give up a first, Bratt, and Smith for a sniper that is so good his current team has been allegedly trying to off load him for 2 years?

Unless I'm mistaken , doesn't St-Louis get some sort of cap recapture penalty because Steen retired above age 35 ?

trying to off load him for two years.....you have some bad intel pal.
and the cost would be higher than that offer. Jets are in zero rush, they are only listening and if they were desperate to get rid of a player they control for 3 more years, he'd be gone already.

he's not "officially" retiring. he will be on LTIR for the last year of his deal.

So he's still getting that 3.5 million regardless (pro rated I guess)

Congrats to Steen on a his career and winning the Cup. Hopefully he can enjoy retirement healthy. Always loved his game dating back to Hitchcock’s stint.

Steen was a great guy to have on your team.

I really didn't like that deal when it happened, the Blues were desperate for a puck moving defenseman at the time and Carlo Colaiacovo was the main piece. I didn't like the Steen portion of the deal, thinking they gave up too much in Stempniak.

I was a wrong as I've ever been about anything. Love the guy.

Just read that Steen will be paid his $3.5 million salary, the Blues will have to deal with his $5.75 million cap hit by placing him on LTIR. So, while there will be cap savings, it will not be the full $5.75mil and there will not be any actual cash savings for the Blues.

No way NJ is giving up that much. Laine is great but that 1st will be a top 10 pick, perhaps top 5, in a D heavy 2021 draft. We are essentially giving up a top 6 wing and 2 defensive prospects that'll likely be our top line by 2024!! We don't have the depth to make that move and Laine is not the answer to our rebuild. With Holtz coming up to put 40 goals in the net down the road, NJ is probably out.

Laine is a one dimensional talent, who is great at that one dimension. Reason he can't be moved is b/c Jets (and their fans) think higher of him than the market does. Jets think they have the next Ovi when they're probably sitting on the next Gaborik.

Laine for JVR and Ghost, Ek? Trade will be made on the weekend when no one is on the internet. TON of trades coming. Leafs are shifting their FOCUS back to Trouba...E4

Palat wants to be The Guy. MAF/Haula sign and Trade. Barzal wants to be a King. Malkin wants to be the Man but he'll settle for being The Ace. Power Forward Mike Hoffman update?

Crazy thought of the day. Blues will use new cap space to re-sign RFA Vince Dunn and not be in the hunt for Laine or Hoffman. But you have the sources Ek.

there is no doubt fan bases all over value their own talent, like Jet fans wanting too much for Laine or yourself for example already assuming Holtz will score 40. we are all guilty

Hell, if he scored 20, I'd be jumping for joy. (He's not ready though. Hopefully they let him develop before bringing him into the fold. Avoid another Jack Hughes scenario.)
