So all the signings are done, unless Tre decides on another ufa. This kid needs a chance to show what he’s got enough of wasting picks signing defencemen for the short term. Wasn’t overly impressed with the play of the D brought in last year. Keep the picks.
I know lots of expectations for certain players from Stockton but does anyone see M Phillips having a chance to make this roster. I watched him for years in the Dub, he’s got a very high level of talent, but another smallish forward. If he wouldnt have got injured last year there was a good chance he would have led the Heat in scoring. Remember it’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog!

Glad they got this done.

Hoping the kid gets some good reps in and can finally show us what he has.

Not unless something catastrophic happens and we lose one (or more) of our top 4 to injury. I like his upside but I don't see him cracking the lineup, at least not yet.

Kylington is ok, inconsistent but he's also been in and out of the lineup. Maybe give him consistent minutes in the first part of the year in a 3rd pairing role and decide. Contract is tradeable and I do see him getting a decent return. Agree on the FA, short term signings. They aren't anything to write home about. I'd rather see the opps given to those already in the organization should the situation arise.

I see Phillips as trade bait. Do you think he could flourish on the 4th line?

Would be cool if he got 3rd pairing and a look on both powerplay units. Looks like him and Nesterov will battle for that last spot on the blue line. Loser runs the 1st powerplay unit for the Heat.

He’ll get another look on the our first powerplay unit. He did last year just out of the virtue of being a RW.

Hope you’re wrong! I see Phillips as a Marty St Louis type, come back and make us pay. Marty got 4th line minutes as well. He’ll probably have to rip it in the A first.

Just like what St Louis did in game 6 of the 2004 Finals. After we should've won the Cup.

Skill wise maybe but St Louis had 25-30 lbs of muscle (legs like a pool table) on Philips.
I saw Philips in a T shirt and shorts at COP and the guy is like 150lbs.
That said I hope he gets a shot as I have not really seen that much of him.

I watched him lots when he was playing for Victoria. He has loads of skill, but you’re right unless he finds a way to Parlay that against men, he’s a long shot.
What I was saying is if he hadn’t got injured, there’s a good chance he would have led the Heat in scoring and we’d be talking about him forcing his way onto the team, much like Mang did.

Looking forward to seeing where his foot speed is at. Him and Dube have been training for most of the pandemic. Would be great if he could stick.

Ruzicka is gonna get a few looks with the big club too. A shame he shoots left.

Buffalo would have to add. Cozun may be a high end prospect but that doesnt necessarily translate to success at the NHL level. For all the trashing Johnny has gotten from the fanbase, he's still an 80 point player. If Treliving did that deal & we missed the playoffs & Buffalo went on a deep playoff run & Gaudreau had over a point per game playing with Hall & Eichel....how many in here would be burning down the Saddledome wanting to run Treliving out of town? I would rather keep him for the next 2 years & sell him as a rental & get a late 1st & a prospect like we dumped Iginla & JBO.

There’s already a movement to run Tre out of town. No playoff success might just be enough.
We need a legit #1 center, not saying Cozens is the answer but definitely an interesting prospect. Going to enjoy watching him at the World Juniors.
With that note, how long do you think til they break up that top line and Zary gets promoted.
Looking at hi lights Peltier looks a lot bigger than when we drafted him. Liking this pick as well.

I hope we don’t fire Tre. There are so many bad GM’s out there. Tre is godly at RFA negotiations, doesn’t get in the way of his scouting group, and has won the major trades. He pulled Poirier out of thin air this draft (although he gives credit to an assistant gm for working out those two trades).

Even the Lucic trade. I’m fvcking stoked we actually got rid of a toxic asset instead of putting up with him for four more years. We turned a whiny, useless diva into one of the most feared players in the NHL and saved cap in the process.

And who can forget Baertschi for the pick that turned into Andersson? We stole a motherfvckin #1 defenseman for Sven Baertschi. We cap fvcked the Canucks while simultaneously getting a staple on the top pairing.

Tre has done great with the scouting. But damn we need a top line C.
