Carol Schram: A first look at how the Canucks' training camp roster could shake out NHL teams will be permitted to ice up to 36 skaters and an unlimited number of goalies when their training camps begin. For the Vancouver Canucks, that date is Jan. 3. Here's a look at who might be in the mix.

Thanks Carol. I still think we will have to deal with the goaltending depth before the AHL starts. DiPietro has essentially lost a seasons worth of starts. He needs games.

Makes sense to not have a full taxi squad so players on off days can go down on off days.

You need cap space! And Stevie Y will gladly take Louie Eriksson off your hands, if only Benny includes your next 3 1st round picks.

Eriksson could be a guy we trade cheapish to Seattle after his bonus is payed with the right pre-draft deal. COVID may have them wanting to save money, rather than try and do what Vegas did. 1m for 6m cap could have value to them with the right asset.

I doubt that will come cheap. I'm sure quite a few teams will be trading with Seattle to clear off some cap space.

Or Canucks could make up a mysterious injury like TB St Louis and NYI did and put him on LTIR

On a serious not I would put Loui on the taxi squad all year and bring up Hawryluk.

That would cost draft picks and or assets, both of which are in short supply for the Canucks, don't see it happening.

Him, Baertschi, Sutter Benn put them all there.

I wonder if the 36 skaters has anything to do with no exhibition games. After the first few days of camp. Going to see scrimmage the same as before playoffs last season.

With very little time for a camp Sutter's groin should blowup in a matter of eight days....book it.

That's why Canucks should max out cap space and sign Brassard and Haula and Hamonic and Shore.

And for the fact Canucks bottom 6 wasn't good and they could use fresh blood

there's no way that a brand new franchise is going to cheap out. they're building a new fanbase so they aren't going to be at the bottom of the salary cap.

i don't care how much they paid or what they'll lose but i don't see a billionaire owner who's been trying to land an nhl franchise for years not have fun with his new toy (at least at the beginning.)

the owners might be losing money but it's still a new toy to them. add in the fact that they'll recoup money through a higher valuation by having a better team.

a winning team leads to more fans/excitement which leads to a higher value on the franchise. this is amplified with a brand new team. it's just cost of customer acquisition.
