Agree. You can tell in TS’s 11 NHL games to QB’s 0 that QB will never reach TS’s level. Anyone watching QB’s NHL games and comparing them with TS’s NHL games will see that without question.

If you get that Murray every game, you make the playoffs. Up to now his numbers have been comically bad... Let's see what happens Saturday.

Lol.

It's way too early for anything.

But I said since last year this time, Stutzle was my favorite player in the draft!

I did like Zub. Brannstrom made a huge difference in getting the puck out his own end. Chabot was Chabot. Gudbransson was fully engaged as was Zaitsev. Murray played well enough to make every defender look better.

Reilly looked like he did not know what he was doing on most shifts and I was nervous every time he touched the puck.

Stutzle is a horse. I think we might see him start to take a few shifts in the centre, especially if Stepan sits or gets moved.

Stu was always the most NHL ready of those 3.....let's wait a little while before making that sweeping declaration.

I feel like if you can make the following moves:

L. Brown replace Stepan

Formenton replace Gally

replace Reilly with wolanin, when healthy

move Gally to taxi and Stepan for whatever pick you can get.....you have a lineup as follows:

tkachuk - norris - bath
Stu - Brown - Daddy
Paul - Tierney - Brown
Formenton - White - Watson

Chab - Zait
Branchise - Gud
Wolanin - Zub

Murray

I like that lineup. probably not a playoff roster yet, but they'll be fun to watch and gives the kids lots of games to help development.

Is it possible for the sens to trade a player like Stepan and retain let's say 85% of the salary so that the cap hit is reasonable for a team looking for cheap veteran player for depth. Since his contract's up at the end of this season, and the actual dollars paid out is less that half his cap hit, who care if we hold on to that cap hit, it's not like the sens will be anywhere near the ceiling.

I was disappointed when the Sens drafted Tkachuk. I had hoped that LA would take Stutzle so Byfield would fall to Ottawa. And, I would have taken another forward rather than picking Sanderson at #5.

Love to be proven wrong.

From Puckpedia:

"When teams trade a player, they can retain, or keep, some of the players' salary and cap hit. The team keeps a % of both the cap hit and salary for the remainder of the contract.

Therefore, if a Player with a Salary of $2.0M and a Cap Hit/AAV of $3.0M is traded with 20% retention, the trading team would continue to pay 20% of the $2.0M Salary and would continue to have a cap hit of 20% of the $3.0M Cap Hit.

The maximum retention % is 50%.

Teams can only carry a maximum of 3 Retained Salaries at a time.

An individual contract can only have a maximum of 2 teams retaining salary on it."

No doubt. I was 50/50 on Stutzle versus Byfield for the Kings. Stutzle's skills are already there, as exhibited last night. His IQ and compete show his balls comprise 20% of his body weight. Conversely, you have to close your eyes and imagine a fully-developed Byfield. The risk with that, of course, is you'll get a Kassian versus a Malkin when Byfiled hits his mid-20's and is finished developing. We'll see who is "better" although I'm guessing that when Byfield enters the league at ~20, Stutzle will already have played 100+ games and will likely be better than what we see now.

It's kind of funny how we've all been saying all along that we want to see the young guys play.... Now they rely on the young guys and we win.

That game should be a massive confidence booster for Murray
Stutzle looks like he's just getting started (I'd like to see more of him playing along side Colin White though. The other night they had some good chemistry)

It was a sloppy messy game where the sens just kept getting in Montreal players way.
The goal by Gallagher shows how fast Montreal can strike when things aren't clogged up. The officials had a tough job of gauging what to let go because there was a lot of intentional/unintentional interference by the Sens. Just skating into the way of Habs players. It was comical to watch. I mean, a win is a win.

Faceoffs are still the biggest problem after goaltending for me. We never seem to have the puck. It was a bit better tonight.

Teams that rely on big speed like Montreal can also be vulnerable to another team that comes at them with speed. I thought Ottawa did a great job of quickly moving the puck out of their own end and stopping the Canadiens with their low down cycle game.

I'd be happy if they got anything for Stepan, Paquette, Coburn, Gally, and Anismov. Retain 50% of their salaries and get 4th and 5th round picks. But I can't see any of them moving until the deadline and I'd be shocked if they get moved at all. I do wish theyd give Gally more of chance. And I really want to see the Formenton, Brown and Batherson line reunited.

It was great to see Murray rebound but...speaking of rebounds, every puck is an adventure with him. And, yet again, a puck hit him in the glove and came right out.

They were lucky to get the win but I'm glad they did. Losing is very contagious and can damage the soul.

The Samansov hit on Chabot was probably the best, legal open ice hit i have seen in a long time. I hate that players have to answer the bell after one of those.. It was a clean hit and then he has to fight after as a reward?

If last night proved anything, it’s that Vancouver is AWFUL. Habs have built up a strong record by (somehow) playing VAN like six times. Now that they’re finally forced to play non-VAN teams, they’re being exposed as the average-at-best team they truly are

I honestly think the habs are a better built team than the leafs.....maybe don't have the top end forwards the leafs do, but much better depth, much better D, and much better goaltending

I think the habs will be the team to come out of this division

I also saw someone mention that Carey Price has been on an insane HDSV% bender to start the year. Will be interesting to see if they can maintain things when that regresses a bit.

Regardless, seeing a Habs Leafs round in the playoffs would be awesome.
Hopefully we can get some fans in the building by then.

barring some kind of crazy upset, that will for sure be the north division final. i think in a regular year, those would be the only 2 teams from Canada that would make the playoffs. Maybe Edmonton, but only because their normal division is complete poop
