Benning is a terrible GM

Could have kept Toffoli and Stetcher instead of trading for Schmidt

Should have traded Ericksson and WHATEVER HE HAD TO ADD to dump that contract and he could have had both Toffoli and Schmidt

Not signing Markstrom was the right move if you believe Demko is the future but it seams Holtby is a terrible waste of Cap $$. Not signing him to 4.6 Million was another option to keep Toffoli and look for cheaper veteran options in goal

Why on earth would you sacrifice anything for Holtby?? His performance this season has been completely predictable, and in line with the downward trend he’s been suffering for a few years. Bad, bad contract

Stick with Ullmark. No difference in quality, cheaper price tag

Vancouver Is far to talented and frankly not to far from competing for the Stanley Cup, It's time for Travis Green to hit the bricks.

Really?? Have you watched them?

It’s a stretch to hang this on Green. Gillis has totally butchered the roster

Hughes is talented offensively, but ECHL level (at best) defensively. He’s a train wreck back there.

This team is nowhere near competing for anything, other than first overall pick

I was wondering why this Canucks themed blog was so out of touch but then realized it was Mark Pinto...

A lot of people seem to think to take the next step Green needs to go.

Didn't need Virtanen. Should have dumped him for anything, not signed Holtby, and signed Toffoli. Virtanen is garbage. Keep Stretcher.

Players are pissed that Tanev is gone imo... Maybe cuz of Stretcher as well.

I think old Marko probably looked at how many hits the Canuck blogs get and thought he would do a troll blog for some hits.

Most of what you say is true. Hughes is passable on D but has been beaten outside more than I’d like to see. Still a bubble type team that had a good PO run last year but that was last season & this season is a new challenge. Rebuilding organizational depth was & still is a huge undertaking. Cap crunch exacerbated a further problem which falls on JB

Gillis???

You continue to point this out about Hughes which leads me to believe you may have a slight crush on the kid or you are envious of what we have. The kid is 5th overall in points in the entire league right now, only Marner on your leafs has more points.

I'm not the least bit worried about his defensive game, moving forward. The kids is in his second year and going through a horrible slump, along with his teammates, right now. Have you actually watched him play besides the two games against the leafs? Every single Canuck right now is playing like sh*t, including Hughes. Where was your comment and opinion about Hughes last year when we were the last Canadian team in the PO's and playing well?

I would take Hughes everyday of the week over any D the leafs currently have.

Going into the offseason and Free Agency the canucks thought they could contend for the division. Montreal and Toronto both made some bold moves to separate from the pack and then Calgary poached their glue in Tanev and Markstrom.

I was a big fan of Jim Benning, his ability to scout amateur talent is among the best out there and will no doubt find work in that department with another NHL team, but his incompetence in negotiating contracts, especially with free agents, should cost him his job.

Laughing hysterically at the "should've kept Stecher" comments.

Becomes quite clear who has and hasn't been watching this club consistently for the past couple seasons.

Do you realize how truly ineffective one needs to be in the defensive end to put up that many points, and still be MINUS 12 after like 12 games?? It’s staggering how bad he is defensively.

And no one is arguing that the Canucks weren’t decent last year. But that was last year, before this wave of regression and terrible roster moves. As much as you want this to be a temporary blip, it’s not. This is reality for a very poorly-constructed team

I would say that vancouver is very soft defensively all around.15 games played and have allowed over 530 shots against their goaltenders.thats an average of 35 a game on each goalie.they have allowed 57 total goals, that's almost 4 goals against for each guy.demkos numbers are just as bad as holtbys,so in my opinion that's a soft defensive team all around.cant hang this season on 1 player, everyone wearing a nucks jersey needs to be better end of story
