Any idea what the motivation here is for either side? |

I have to feel bad for Gally at a certain point. Not exactly great for confidence if this is team inspired. |

Sure, clearly Galch was snuck in to the deal as a joke, Waddell had no idea he was part of the return. So Ek called it a brilliant deal for Carolina because now they have 3 players for the price of 1.
Waddell must seriously like Paquette, because he could have simply given Toronto Dzingel and skipped the middle man. |

Great move! Toronto needs help on the blue line and yet they apparently are more Interested In collecting young European forwards. |

My guess is Ottawa Wanted to shed salary and open up a spot for a kid, hence Paquette and Galchenyuk
Carolina Wanted some Muscle and thus, Paquette. Maybe they wanna add a Ruski or two to the Organizational Pipeline so Svech doesnt get lonely?
And Toronto. They’re Toronto. They only make bad trades so this is in keeping with the Company Narrative. |

Galchenyuk was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

It's entirely possible that Galchenyuk Is not that bothered by moving so often, By the time he was 15 he had resided In Milwaukee, Chicago, Italy, Germany, and Russia. |

Carolina gets a faster stronger younger player for a 1st round bust.

Be honest:
How many of you Hurricanes fans already bought Galchenyuk jerseys?
Maybe you want to swap for my Leafs Olaf Kolzig jersey? |

Ottawa added salary.
These trades from CAR were a) to shed Dzingel, who stunk, from the roster and save some cap space
b) to get a physical 4C who is going to be fine playing that 4C role for cheap.
c) to get some warm bodies for Galchenyuk and do something nice for their AHL coach by trading for his younger brother
