Can't wait! I love seeing teams go overboard on goalie contracts and live to regret it. |

He over hyped, I've followed him since his days in the ohl and I've never found him to be anything special. Yeah he had a hell of a start to his career and was lights out the year the blues won the cup, but I dont think he's worth the money he's going to get. Mind you there really isn't a goalie in the league thats worth the money they are or will get. Goalies are strange, they go hot and cold more than my shower. The last goalies I can think of that were worth the money were Brodeur, Roy, and Hasek. And there's no goalie in the league today close to any of them. Its more of a 2 goalie league now. |

What truck will the leafs back up? The cap staying flat, they best they could do is offer the 5 million they are giving Andersen. Not to mention Hyman will probably want a pay bump. There isn't much coming off the cap. What contracts are expiring (minus Andersen) are all low figures, and even if you let them walk, will need to be replaced by other players.
The leafs will probably be looking to spend less on goaltending next season. |

How do you back up a trunk? Does it beep? - eichiefs9
Keeping with Ek's awkward analogy, the Leafs can back up the trunk all they want, but when they actually open the trunk, there won't be much money inside. |

Assuming Toronto doesn't trade away Tavares or Nylander, their best bet is starting Campbell next season with a good middle tier goaltender who can come in if he's not delivering. |

They have 14 million in expiring contracts, not to mention the contract they lose in the expansion draft.
But I doubt they go over 5 anyway.

The Leafs would better off trying to solidify the blueline maybe going after Doughty and or Jonas Brodin. |

Anderson 5M
Hyman 2.25M
Simmonds 1.5M
Bogo 1M
the rest are all at or near the minimum and will have to be resigned or replaced with other bodies.
There's not much savings to go around once everyone is resigned.

Tavares isn't going anywhere. While he might not be worth his cap hit, trading him opens a massive hole. Nylander I can see getting traded, but I would hope it would be to fix another area with another top player, not just for picks and futures. The only money I see the leafs having is the 5 million from andersen, maybe they can trade Kerfoot, but you would also have to replace him. The lack of cap space might actually save them from doing anything too stupid in getting another goalie. |

They will just never learn from not only their own mistakes but from the mistakes of others as well. |

I know math is hard but. . .
Leafs have 10 position players to backfill next year and 15 million in cap space.
How in gods name does that work if you have to pay roughly half of that to your new starting goalie. Which of the top 4 guys you shipping out to make it happen.

Unless that offer contains alot of buttons and beach rocks, I don't see how the Leafs fit him under the cap - unless Dubas trades one of the fabulous four which he has maintained he doesn't plan to do.
I'm sure he's regretting the Tavares signing these days. He's probably the one he would want to move but no one would take that contract unless the Leafs eat about a third of it. |

Eklund: Leafs Could "Back up the Trunk for Binnington in the Off-Season" Buzz@1 - Eklund
“and another source tells me that Jordan, who was born and raised in the Toronto suburb of Richmond Hill, would consider it a dream come true to pull on the Leafs jersey...”
Amazing inside information!! It takes someone with VERY close ties to the player to be able to confirm that they would like to play for their hometown team. |

Binnington was horrible against Vancouver last summer.
The Leafs don't need a truck to back up the amount they have to spend, a Big-wheel will do.
