Harkins is the same type of player that Appleton is. Now if he would only get a chance to play if Maurice sits down either Thompson or Lewis, preferably both. |

Apples has been very good this year and is deserving of a shot in the top 6 and 2nd power play. He is third on our team in even strength goals ( more than Connor )
I have liked both Perreault and Copp's game this year but time for Apples to get some PP time.
I wish Paul would give running four lines more a chance than 1 F'in game. it's like the thought of running 4 lines gives him anxiety and he can not bring himself to try it. but this would be fun to watch.
81-55-22
9-13-27
85-25-26
harkins/Vess-17-Lewis
and please for the love of god get Heinola in the line up for Beau!!!! I will not stop banging this drum till happens |

Earlier in the year we had a 4th line of Vasalainen Gustafsson and Lewis and it looked very promising.
Vas, Gus and Harkins as a 4th line would be very interesting to watch.
They are rotting right now
Let’s try it, go young, energy and some skill |

I like the top 9, unless they use some combo of Vesalainen, Harkins, Copp and Appleton to create a scoring 3rd line and push the Lowry line down to 4th. This would effectively remove Thompson and Lewis. Frenchie playing like last nite is a welcome sight, I hope that continues. Beaulieu in over Niku, Stanley, Heinola and even Samberg needs to stop. Park him on the taxi squad and only break the glass in the event of a real emergency. |

Not letting me quote for some reason but when was the last time Gustafsson played a hockey game??!! |

February 4th. Sadly, he didn’t do anything to warrant removal except not have 12 years under his belt.

Most definitely. The Leafs are playing excellent hockey and their defence has really started to click. With the firepower they have on offence it makes them a very formidable team. They held the high powered Oilers to only 1 goal in 3 games !!!
This will indeed be the major test for where the Jets rank. For the first time in many years, the Leafs do look like the better team. right now. Looking forward to this series.

I'm thinking, thus far: (in no particular order re numbers)
1. - Leafs, Jets
2. - Oilers, Habs, Canucks and Flames - fighting for last two playoff spots
3 - Sens (but lookout in a year or two)
But thing is, any team can beat the other on any given night, no matter how they are ranked by whoever.
Final standings will be dictated by injuries, trades, schedule in the home stretch. |

It will. I just hope to see more fight out the Jets. The Leafs are incredibly soft, and highly skilled. So if at some point in the series, the Jets find them selves in a massive deficit, show the Leafs what you can do physically. The likely 7 game playoff series should be something that the Leafs fear. Lowry has the ability to man handle anyone on that team. If you don't show up on the scoreboard, start instilling fear and make them grab their sticks a little tighter during the next meeting.
As good as Matthews is, he is still a one-trick pony. Pacing for 32 assists, 5 short of his career high, so just focus on keeping his shot at bay.

believe me I am no Leaf fan (or Matthews fan) but he is a hell of a hockey player and I don't see him as a one-trick pony. Probably the closest thing to Mario that the league has seen. It pains me to say but I give him the nod over McDavid and see more growth in his game over the past year or two and through the next few years too.

When did Mario put up 37 assists in one season? Oh ya, about 1/2 way through his rookie season. Matthews has never done that. I think Matthews is an absolute force, but I would not have the gall to compare him with Mario. That goes too far. To be considered one of the all-time greats, you had better be a guy who makes the player around you better. I am not even convinced that Matthews is the best Leaf. Marner makes the remaining 4 players dangerous every night. He is who you need to keep off the puck. Find away to not let Matthews shoot, and there isn't much else left to his game. Why not compare Reilly to Orr while were at it...... |

Lets not get carried away.
Edit: I have seen Matthews take over games with strong play. His size and movement reminds me of Mario - and his play demands that he receive special attention from the opposition.
Is it too soon to say that Petterson reminds of of Kariya and sometimes Gretzky? |

Let's face it both Matthews and Marner are very good players, a super tandem. Matthews is certainly not a one-trick pony, although I extremely dislike the guy, mainly because he is a Leaf. I'm not going to say he is a Lemieux (he isn't), but a Sundin thus far.
Rielly could play on my team (the Jets) any time. He would be an all-star. No, he's not B. Orr, but damned good and steady. Wish we had him.
Pettersson certainly doesn't remind me of Gretzky. Talented, young with super potential. But let's wait a while before we call the jury in. Actually he does remind me so far of a young Mats Sundin. Maybe the looks and because he's a Swede? |

For someone that dislikes the Leafs like you, you sure know lots about Mats Sundin. It appears that every player who does not compare to Lemieux or Gretzky becomes Mats Sundin. |

Followed the Leafs for years and years - became a Jet fan when they returned here in 2011. Loved Sundin and Sittler, hated Dave Keon. Have a problem with that?
Now it's ALL Jets! Some day people will be comparing young, upcoming players to Connor, Ehlers and Scheifele. It's part of being an avid fan. |

I have seen Matthews play good hockey as well. But comparing him to Mario is nothing short of a joke. His stats and role are much more comparable to Tarasenko. Just look at their numbers throughout their career, as well as their style of play. Matthews is a big boy who plays a soft game, and has never been an elite play-maker. The guy revolutionized the slingshot release, which he has build his entire game around. That is great, but he needs to do so much more the compared to anyone on that level.
Petterson is a special player for sure. But again, his career high 66 points is a farcry from those boys still. He is extremely underrated for his strength. The guy can shoot 103mph, and is very good at reverse-hitting. I could see Karia being a fair comparison.
Now what is up with Demelo? It looks like they simply put his jersey on a D from my beer league team? He was so good at all the little things last season, and now he looks completely lost out there. What changed? |

Haha. Sundin's only comparable is Thorton in my opinion. Couple of big guys who use their arse to protect the puck until a player is open. They did a great job at it, and earned some serious $ for their big rumps. A couple good examples of great players who sucked at skating. |
