The small break from Wings hockey has kind of sucked, but i'm not gonna lie, not real excited to see what kind of game they bring against Tampa. The Bolts are a much better team, there's no way around that, and they have shown they are capable of making us look like a minor league team. Larkin is going to be a day time decision, they still don't have a proper timeline on Bertuzzi which is becoming more and more concerning. It's not playoffs, we aren't making playoffs, i'm puzzled why we can't get more information besides "upper body injury" after how long it's been now.
As for the draft and speaking about Yzerman not going to be interested on fixing anything about the competitiveness of the team on the short term, I agree on on all levels. The Wings really need a break and be able to nab a 1st or 2nd overall, being in this state and a bottom tier team, 4ths and 6ths aren't gonna cut it, there needs to be another team changing player coming our way soon, so any improvement on odds of that happening will be welcomed. |

With the Buffa-slugs needing a goalie.
Would Stevie just trade one of our starters for pick(s) or towards a good player. It is rumored that Reinhart might be in play. 25 and a RFA soon. Maybe a 2 for 2 hockey trade??
Greiss + Mantha for Reinhart + Johansson

I never really cared about the multiple lottery wins as with the exception of the rangers who moved a number of spots both times, most teams that are in a position to win multiple times are actually that bad. I 100% support only two draft lotteries so that last drops no further than 3 and the 10 spot max move up (though I would suggest 8, half of the 16 non playoff teams).
But if we assume there is a limit on wins I’ll be curious if it applies to current pick ownership or original ownership. For example does Ottawa winning 3rd last year count against Ottawa’s limit or San Jose’s since it was the shark’s pick that won it? I would personally lean towards original ownership as I don’t think it would make sense to penalize a team for making a good trade. |

Maybe if the pick was traded you penalize neither one??? It gets more complicated very fast!

That’s a great question! By limiting it to two picks, the last place team won’t pick worse than third, Thats an improvement. So if a team gets to wins (will be 1 or 2 now) and they’re still that bad, at least they can’t move back too many spots. Edmonton was probably mentioned a few times as far as first overall picks |

Gold plan please. Just give the teams ownership of their destiny. No lotto system will ever be fair. |

Hey all. I’ve been in the hospital since last night. They’re running more tests. I may not get the game day stuff done in time. Will definitely get it up once I can.
Love the article H2 posted. Seider being hailed as possibly the best player not in the NHL is a huge honor. His physicality is so far beyond what we currently have. That kid is going to sell a lot of jerseys. |

Good read, Jeremy. Some items in your column are definitely causing deep thinking....as a result of deep thinking, as usual.
So, here's where I stand: There is NO single player that'll return the Wings to glory. And right now, with expiring contracts for older guys, pending expansion draft, COVID issues, and any other Biblical event one can think of; this ain't gonna change. No matter what happens to change the lottery system, we got the high hard one routinely. But complaining about it now isn't going to change that. We lost out on some serious talent. The entire league knows it, and sat idly by watching teams get screwed. NOW, all of a sudden, they want to CHANGE IT?!?!?! (frank) you. Too late. Credibility is completely lost.
Credibility was lost when Gudas was allowed to head-hunt, then Wilson got a week, when the LAST PLACE team drafted #4. It lost credibility when a certain leader who shall remain nameless (cough-BETTMAN-cough...) was allowed his staff to put the screws to ANY team, and seemingly enjoy it......but I digress....
It's going to be at least 3 years before we see any substantial improvement in the record and a team that can seriously content JUST for the SCPO. There's no way on Gordie's White Ice that it'll happen any sooner: We can't draft enough star-quality/ generational talent, and we can't sign RFA/UFA in a large enough quantity to make it happen sooner. So, we need to be patient. It'd be easier to be patient if the coaching staff had more capability, but that horse is fairly dead, so I ain't gonna beat it no more.....like hell I'm not: What would Blash do if we have Lafrenier? We'd still be dealing with food-processor lines, mish-mashes of talent, guys not being given time to form cohesiveness, and a complete lack of a comprehensive game plan that exploits the talents on the roster. I think, seriously, that this needs to be Blah's last year; finish and go gently into that good night. Then, bring in a coach with some freakin' credibility, someone who says "I Richarded up the game plan tonight" not; "Well, if the guys would play like I want them to...." If we had a coach with talent, the ability to fill gaps via trades/UFA/RFA would be exponentially easier. Ask Eichel if he'd accept a trade to Detroit. He'll tell the GM to get (frank)ed. Literally, no one wants to come to HockeyTown. No one. They guys that do want to come here (RE: RYAN.....) see it only as a chance to re-establish themselves as a legit NHLer. The sad thing is, we have talent on this roster right now: Mantha's good, Smith is a beast, Ras has turned the corner, Bert's made out of the Marchand mold, Larkin's a legit star, Hronek plays against the very best lines, Brome' & Namestnikov…..these are guys that still have a viable skill-set. Now, those guys aren't going to go on a 25yr SCPO run, BUT they are GOOD players. Better than the record for the past several years would indicate. The PP is embarrassing, the PK is anemic....special teams needs a telethon, guys. The Jerry Lewis Telethon for Scatter-Brained Coaches.
Again, there is light, but it's a ways off. I'm not sold on drafting #1 is going to change a damn thing right now. We're still going to be mired in obscurity and be an also-ran for several more years. The sad thing is, we didn't have to be where we are. That's what hurt's the most. |

Bless you brother. A wings win tonight could probably cure leprosy. Moses will part the rink. My Buddy Bob saw someone write “Jesus saves” on a chalkboard a long time ago. He wrote “but Esposito scores on the rebound”. Beautiful |

It was an IPad!!! You’re not the boss!! I’m kidding. You sound a lot like the doctors/nurses and anyone with common sense. I finally got home! I haven’t slept in 48 hours. Good news, no serious damage. Bad news, blood pressure. But, the dr asked me if i had any activities that would add to my stress. I was wearing my Red Wings hat. That’s not a real doctor! This is one of the hospitals that promotes Detroit sports! If he can’t figure out what that winged wheel did to my ticker, he needs his license revoked!
All seriousness, i have to rest a little bit. I will be typing, but it will be a little late. Need to get some sleep going again. You guys are the absolute best. I love you all, even though we can spat now and then. Sending virtual ginger ales your way |

Interesting wording from Elliote Friedman’s 31 thoughts that may answer my earlier question about teams being consistently bad:
“The word “advances” is key, because any team that actually finishes 32nd or 31st and stays there is not affected. There’s a 10-spot-leap maximum. All previous wins do not count — it’s a fresh start for everyone.”
So if we assume this is true it appears if let’s say the wings finish last and get the pick or move down to second it does not go against your 2 win limit. |

That is a really big part of it. If a team “wins” but is more than 10 spots back, those picks stay the same. Same with teams who’ve already had 2 wins. I really hope this will make the right type of impact. Ok, that’s it for now! Laying down! |
