Surprised neither of Glendening or Bernier went, I thought there would be a lot more activity from Detroit. Maybe the offers weren't there, or maybe teams were offering scraps, i'd rather keep both guys over losing them for another 4th or worse.

I just couldn't see Stevie Y knuckling under to bargain hunting, lowballing GM's. It's not his responsibility to make those teams better. It's to make the Red Wings better. He obviously told them to kick rocks. 👍

They got a 1st and a 2nd. Nice. Panik is a throw in. Vrana is an RFA. He's 25. 11 goals this season. I said all season Stevie must be very disappointed with Mantha. I don't know much about Vrana. He scored 24 and 25 goals the previous 2 seasons.

A nice haul for Mantha. Steve has traded top players while in Tampa.

A Washington 1st is going to be more like 25th overall or so, unless it's another team's 1st which I don't think it is. Vrana is about on par statistically with Mantha, but that's on a good Washington team vs a really bad Detroit team. He will get more minutes here and will be a top 6 guy for sure.

I don't know, I gotta let this one marinate.

I posted an apology on the blog page. Yzerman always holds cards close to the vest, but this was insane. Honestly, I’m incredibly disappointed at this point. I feel physically sick that Panik will wear a Detroit jersey. Go back to Grand Rapids playing for the Calder cup. He avoided suspension somehow, but he is just horrible.

I'll gladly take that for Mantha! Especially the draft picks...

Quick thoughts:

My impression of Vrana is that he isn't quite as good as Mantha, but he also isn't that far off either. His production is pretty nice especially considering he gets second/third line sort of minutes in Washington. Will be interesting to see how he adjusts to (likely) being a first-line winger on a bottom feeder.

Panik, whatever. I don't like him but he's a competent third liner.

If it's true that this deal also includes a 1st and 2nd rounder, and Vrana re-signs in Detroit (he's an RFA) ...

This deal SUCKS. Big time. Panik is an assssshole. Vrana.....meh. Not impressed. This one needs to marinate a bit, but my gut reaction was to ralph my lunch. Mikey's gonna quit, he loved "the big Frenchman"
