You’re missing the point. Oilers have had 5 1st overall picks during their rebuild and still sport only handful of decent players. Put McDavid on the Flames and it wouldn’t be close.

The Oilers have not had 5 1st oa picks. It was 4, and 2 of which aren't around anymore. The Yak draft was one of the worst draft years of all time. And it was almost 10 years ago already. Hall wore out his welcome and didn't fit with wear this team was heading. Nuge is fine, nothing wrong with him. And McDavid is better than any flame in the history of that franchise.

Other picks have helped build the Oilers a fine minor league system and a deeper prospect pool than most. Do the Flames even have a prospect worth mentioning left? And their highest ever pick was a massive bust who just got traded for a bag of farts.

The only thing the Flames have done right is only winning it all ONCE. And that happened so long ago that only 2 active flames were alive when it happened.

Not all 1st OAs work out. See how Bennett turned out being a top 5 pick.

And I didn't say all their top prospects are on the farm. But in their system. Broberg, Bouchard, Samorukov as defence prospects. Konovalov in goal. Holloway, Benson, Marody, Lavoie, McLeod, and Savored are all considered good forward prospects.

Their 2nd line looks bad because they are loading up the 1st line and RNH is out with a concussion. At full health a top 6 of ??? - CMD - Puljujarvi
RNH - Drai - Yamamoto
Is fairly solid. Not great by any means but not hot garbage.

Kesselring, Kemp and Desharhains also all made the jump to Bakersfield and look like they could be solid projects. Their ceiling isn't high, top 6 at best, but for late round picks, they are solid.

I'd also add Skinner to that list and maybe Rodrigue. Rodrigue is still a far way off, but his last game he had a shutout and came in relief for Skinner in another game and was solid. Skinner is having a solid season. A few bad games have destroyed his save percentage, but the improvement is there.
