Bill Meltzer: Wrap: Flyers Lose to NJ, 4-1; Phantoms Lose to Binghamton, 4-2 - bmeltzer
Ghost has 17 points in 38 games...that’s not good numbers for him, two years removed from a 65 point year. .How clueless are your comments? If not for his injuries ? And if my mother had a Richard she’d be my dad. My standards for a d man like ghost is closer to his 65 point season where by his play in his own zone is somewhat offset by his deficiencies....and despite your obvious vast knowledge do factor in to a players game. For most of this season he hasn’t even been the coaching staffs pick for the first pp unit....well you point out that Myers hasn’t been good, it has to be pretty telling to even someone like yourself that the Flyers will protect him over ghost in the upcoming draft. As far as Seattle taking a terrible guy maybe they hope they get the ghost of his first few years in the league...not the over paid plug he has become. Frankly it’s probably wishful thinking on my part that Seattle is that stupid. You can argue all you want about what a wonderful year Ghost has had, as it just shows me what you actually see when you watch...I simply don’t see what you do. - landros 2
I saw this late I had to carry this over. First I think you’re nuts to hold Ghost to these expectations and without Ghost, we may not even have a legitimate PP quarterback, so it’s nice seeing Ghost up to speed.
Ghost isn’t two years removed from 65 points, that was three years ago, in April of 2018. If your standard for Ghost is 65 points every year, well you’re likely to be disappointed from now until the end of his career. Ghost has hit the 65 point mark once, three years ago and the closest he’s ever come to that was 47 points his rookie season, which was five years ago.
If you’re comparing Ghost among the elite, Erik Karlsson’s offensive numbers don’t offset his defensive responsibilities. Karlsson is a minus defenseman for his career and has surpassed the 65 point mark 5 times in his career and Ghost is not Erik Karlsson.
Ghost is definitely not John Carlson who surpass 65 points pretty regularly. I don’t think you understand how high an achievement 65 points is per season. There isn’t even 65 games to be played this season but on that note Shea Weber has never seen a 65 point season. Hedman has surpassed it only once. These are guys who see tremendous ice time and a much higher well rounded game.
I stand by my word. Ghost is having a nice season but to his own standard. Most certainly a rebound from last season. He’s not good defensively but the offense is definitely there. |

This organization is delusional. Thank god fletcher locked up Laughton for 5 years. the devils sold off their vets for draft capital and curb stomped us in the turd series.

Flyers probably won't even get a top 10 pick this year even being as bad as they are...
Granted it doesn't seem like a stacked draft this year, but grabbing one of the top 4 defensemen would of been nice. Now next year seems to be a bit stronger, so I expect the Flyers to be just good enough to miss the playoffs or just squeak in.
YaY for mediocrity!

If they can move JVR & Jake with expansion and a trade, it's a step in the right direction.
Just keep their replacements on short deals with no NMC's.
Boom. Young team that either gets their stuff together or we are a bottom 5 team. G & HAyes be damned. They don't like it? There's the door.

I’ve never been one of those strip the C people but if he’s here next year, and I’m assuming he will be, it’s time for a change. Give it Provy or someone from outside the organization they bring in. Kings did it with Dustin Brown.
At no point during this colossal collapse has any one of the vets on this team stepped up and said enough is enough. A result of there being no accountability from this franchise since Snider and Homer were running things. |

Ghost actually looked pretty good last night. Odd time to critize him. He was the best guy we had in the ice. Not saying much, but true.
It’s not his fault the Flyers use him wrong. They were tossing him out there on the first pairing against the other teams best line earlier in the yr and obviously that did not go well. He is dreadful in his end, but does make a good outlet pass and is very good in the offensive zone. He needs to be hidden on the 3rd pairing w Morin or whomever and start plays in the ozone. That’s what he is. He also has 8 goals in less than 40 games. That ain’t all that bad.
His contract is not his fault. At least he does something well.
Can someone explain to me what Myers has done well this yr and why it took so long to move him off the second pairing and eventually out of the lineup? He was not just bad this year, he was bad in the playoffs last year and the tail end of last season.
Both the GM and the coach deserved the wretched d they received this yr. |

Last night AV was asked what his level of frustration was right now and he answered it in this all too familiar way:
"Frustration won't help us play better, tonight especially in those first two periods we had a tremendous amount of offensive looks and zone time but didn't get enough out of it, and couldn't make that team pay for the mistakes that they made and they made quite a few [mistakes] and gave us quite a few opportunities. In this game you have to be able to make the opposition pay when they make a mistake and that's how you build momentum but unfortunately tonight we were not able to do that."
AV has said something like this the entire season after a loss. To me its the NUMBER ONE thing this team must fix in the off season. A lot of us here think we need to upgrade our D, and we do need another top pairing Dman to play with Provey. However it means nothing unless we fix our forward group. We just don't have the skill, speed, and top level talent necessary to compete at a high level in this league. I knew it coming into the season. AV knows it based on how many times he basically states the same thing presser after presser, and I am very sure Fletcher knows it. We shall see if the Flyers can fix this in the offseason, because if they go into next season with this veteran core group, absolutely nothing will change! |

I agree, but I’m not sure who they currently have or could possibly acquire that will have the balls to call out their teammates after a poor performance. Behind the bench, however...it won’t happen, but sure would be nice to have a John Tortorella telling it like it is postgame. |

You can't get blood out of a rock! Its not the coaching. Its not the lack of a rah-rah speech before the games. The Flyers lack the top end talent necessary to complete in this league. They must replace the veteran core on this team, they must take a step back to take two steps forward.

Boat raced 3 straight by a team coming off a 10 game losing streak. Eaten alive by the Sabres to break an 18 game losing streak.
Make no mistake, this is the least competitive team in the League.
How long before Seattle has a better team? July 22 is the answer. |

The thing is he’s held up his end of the bargain for how long now? Maybe a couple ‘down years’ but what had this organization done to ice an actually competitive hockey team? Our best chance was probably the year we lost to NYr in seven, probably win that if mason is ready to go rather than Razor, god rest his soul. And that team wasn’t all that great. Is it his fault all of these immaculate prospects Hexy got us suck? |

I suppose you would agree that throwing our top 3 playmakers on the top line together is very efficient coaching. Let’s put it all on Coots to score when he is a well rounded offensive player but not a sniper. There is an age gap between our primary playmakers and our young shooters. We don’t help them by putting them with Hayes who needs a head start on the best offseason of his lifetime. The coaching is absolutely an issue. They are not developing the young talent and not surrounding them with vets on lines that can succeed.
The one exception last night was the Lindblom-Laughton-Allison line which has potential as a third line.

Who did the other team have to worry about besides him? Why do you think this team has been in and out of the playoffs for a decade? Because they are icing a good roster? |
