In a normal year, selecting a goalie with a high pick is hard to stomach. But, this draft is anything but normal. At best, it’s a crap shoot at 6.
I say, take the goalie, we have another first round pick. The odds that we pick someone with Washington’s pick that ends up outplaying our 6th is higher than ever. Roll the dice. |

I think you’re on to something here. This is such a mixed bag, and scouting is upside down. We need goalies. Petruzzelli could play a huge role in the rebuild if he signs on. Still, that’s pretty much it for depth. Would be nice to have another strong net minder in the system |

Never take a goalie with high 1st round picks, ever!
You CAN do it with the Caps pick, if you absolutely must, but plenty of Cup winning goalies are found much later |

There it is, category #2!
- some people say never draft a goalie in the top 15 (or in the first round at all). Essentially, if you can’t trade down to get the goalie you want, get someone else because you just can’t draft a goalie that high without evoking an Old Testament curse of locusts, frogs or rivers of blood. |

Disco Dan can (frank) right off. |

Considering where the Red Wings sit on the NHL food chain this Blashill extension Is a no brainer and once the Wings turn the rebuild corner In an upward direction Blashill will be replaced. |

There’s been what 1 top 15 pick cup winning goalie in the cap era? And only 3 from the 1st round? |

Correction: Knight was drafted in 2019 at 15 OA , the same year Stevie drafted future Norris Trophy winning defenseman Mo-hitz Seider at #6. |

Spencer Knight and Lucas Raymond weren't even drafted in the same year. Maybe you mean Askarov.
You don't waste a #6 pick on Wallstedt. Use the Caps pick to select Sebastian Cossa. He's 6'6 but has excellent athleticism. He has just as good of a chance of making it as Wallstedt.
Also, Keith Petruzzelli is not a key to any rebuild.
But I'll go away now before anyone lectures me again.

Select one of the best 4 D that are at the top of the draft. I don' think the Wings will get a shot at Power or Edvinsson, but maybe will get one of Hughes or Clarke. Select best C at Washington pick (Aatu Raty). And then grab D's Morrow or Schmidt in the 2nd round. Goalie Gaudreau will probably be available in the late 2nd round as well. There are 6 ranked goalies in the first 3 rounds, I am sure with all the picks Stevie has that he will grab one......But goalies are always available in FA, so it is not always a priority to draft a highly ranked goalie, just good goalies to keep your system prospect operating. |

I agree but Cossa may not be there at the Caps pick. So Ratty is my choice there or Sillenger or Balduc or Bourgault.

The Penguins drafted Fleury first, then picked Malkin, Crosby and Staal in the next 3 years, but they got 5 top 5 picks in a row, including two #1's and two #2's. I doubt they would have taken Fleury if Malkin or Crosby were in the same draft as him. The 2003 didn't have a generational player other than Fleury, which panned out as he's made the playoffs 17 years in a row. When Chicago went on their big draft run, they already had Crawford from a 2nd round pick. I say take the skill players and backfill a goalie. |

BTW...I've seen several draft sites showing Detroit picking Lennox in the 2nd round.

Update-Seider was named defenseman of the year for the SHL. I got grief mentioning the top prospect award but no denying that Seider made his mark as a 19 year old (turned 20 in April). |
