Murray was playing pretty well at the end of the season. Guy just needs to put his form together on a consistent basis.

You missed a point a big where Melnyk was irate about the tax break the upcoming Porsche building was getting from the city which the Sens don’t seem to get. Seemed like a very valid argument even though Melnyk slipped a shot at the fans saying: “I've got not fans and I'm still trying to put on a show for everybody."

It is quite evident there is quite the rock and a hard place between the city and Melnyk. I actually didn’t hate the Gatineau idea as much as most people seem to. Practically the same area as Lebreton and the team already plays outside of Ottawa now.

There was also a point brought up about Melnyk discussing development of Kanata with current developers. I am not sure what can really be done in the area since they have pretty much effed it up with random shopping options, dime a dozen car dealerships, and random office buildings. All of which are next to unwalkable.

There are several options for a new arena but seems nothing will really happen unless the city and Melnyk come to some kind of understanding.

Playing in the outskirts of Ottawa, and playing in another province is very different though, for several reasons. I'd think even more so since they play in "the nation's capitol".

If we thought traffic to the game was bad now, I don't want to think what some of hte bridges would be like. Maybe give a chance to build a few more.

Could be a good excuse to build a few more though.

Too bad there's no AHL playoffs.

THe B Sens were heating up. Still liking what I'm seeing in Sokolov so far. Curious to see what he does next year in a full AHL season.

Melnyck just told us to expect the Sens to sign a bunch of washed up veterans again. Same strategy as the last 2 years. He'll probably show about 65 - 70mil. on the books to be cap floor compliant but about 8 or 10mil. under the floor because of bonuses prepaid by previous teams or players on LTIR. The owner pockets a lot of money and just keeps the charade going. We're being conned by an unethical business man. The Sens are building a competitive team, not a contender.

I wouldn't put it past Melnyk to take a shot at the fans, but I took it as "due to covid, I'm not getting any revenue from tickets/beer/merch/etc.", not that the fan base for Ottawa is small.

The most important comments are about Gatineau and LeBreton. If Melnyk moves 300 yards north of where the LeBreton arena was proposed you are in Gatineau. If the current Casino was combined with the arena, right at the heart of LRT, it would be a huge home run for Melnyk, the Casino, Gatineau and Quebec.

I would interpret Melnyk's comments to mean LeBreton is still very much alive.

LeBreton will never happen as long a Melnyk owns the team, no one wants to work with him, no one trusts him.

I think you are right. But his comments about a terrible mayor and an awful partner suggests he believes that a different mix might have made it happen.

he wants some else to foot the bill for a new arena while he gets all the revenue from said arena, he cannot afford to pay for a new arena himself, most of his wealth is in the sens (400M) horses and land, he has little liquid cash himself.

The Gatineau thing is just smoke, there is zero chance he'd do that.....the tax implications from going to one of the lower taxed provinces to the highest taxed province would decimate him, and have a pretty significant impact on signing players.

I believe, if i'm not mistaken, Quebec is the highest taxed province/state in North America......there is ZERO chance he moves the rink there.

didn't realize ON was 3rd, but despite that, there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in tax between QC and ON.

when I moved from ON to NS, the monthly difference on my pay (which is a fraction of what these players make) was about 500$........so for NHL players and owners, you're talking probably tens of thousands a year, AT LEAST

Yes BIG difference

Quebec
15% on the first $44,545 of taxable income, +
20% on the next $44,535, +
24% on the next $19,310, +
25.75% on the amount over $108,390

Ontario

5.05% on the first $44,740 of taxable income, +
9.15% on the next $44,742, +
11.16% on the next $60,518, +
12.16% on the next $70,000, +
13.16 % on the amount over $220,000

HOWEVER corporate tax rates are the SAME for Quebec and Ontario at 11.5%

I dont even know the nhl would permit him to relocate to another city, albeit an extension of downtown Ottawa.
I think Kanata is fine just build up right up on stadium land, make an entertaining area like landsdown. As it is right now people are bored and expect more. They just rush to get in and out. What a waste... build it up at unparelled ,huge ,warp speed....

Overalll i thought his interview was 75% good. That is an amazing feat. Although if he wants to start mending fences in Ottawa he should start by giving tsn 1200 exclusive interviews, bury the hatchets

Murray was a good gamble ,a little expensive at this point. If he ends up being a backup , thats a good backup to have....if only 3 mill/year.
White contract was neccesary at the time. They were spinning out of control on and off the ice....proud to be a senator were nice wordsto hear at that juncture.

I mean, they wouldn't plop the arena down and say good luck getting there. There would be infrastructure in place to accommodate traffic. The "Quebec" thing is just noise to me but I can see people getting agitated by it. However, tons of public servants hope over the provincial border to work and live already.

I think it's mostly smoke trying to get the City of Ottawa to cooperate/bend over.

this is it exactly....problem is that most of the city staff has realized for years how full of poop Melnyk is so all his poop does is piss off the fans and accomplish nothing else.

Do Quebecers pay the same rate of Federal Tax (15%)?

because 30% on your first 44k is disgusting

After $250,000 in income, taxes in Ontario and Quebec are almost the same, with Ontario's marginal tax rate coming in higher. At $100,000 there is a 2.3% difference in the tax rates. It is at the lower tax brackets that Quebec is much higher.

With gustavsson and daccord probably being the preferred candidates for the backup role I wonder if forsberg was just resigned for expansion reasons and perhaps if after the draft he may be moved? I bring the up as Calgary will likely be looking for an inexpensive backup to play minimal games and I was impressed by forsberg’s play this year.
