Cholo can be traded for a veteran LD if Stevie does not get a FA LD. He certainly is not untouchable and if he does not show much more progress soon he will be trade bait if he isn't already. As I said before: 'trade him to Vancouver with the Oiler's 2nd for Nate Schmidt.' Van needs the cap space to sign Petterson and Hughes, and Cholo will perform better for his favorite team. It's a win-win! Also Van is not happy with the Schmidt fit. |

Schmidt is 29 with 4 more years at 5.95. The second round pick is fairly valuable (we seem to do ok in that round). Anything can happen, but that’s a lopsided deal. I’d love to see Cholo step up and figure it out. If he doesn’t, he can be waived. I think Schmidt is probably going to decline at 30+. Just doesn’t seem like the best deal at this point |

Left side vs right. If we do draft a D, they may not be ready for a couple years. But, Cholo could well get squeezed out if he doesn’t take a step forward. |

Well he doesn’t have a contract so the question is should they even qualify him. I’m indifferent on that. |

This is probably my gripe on Cholowski. He’s supposed to be an offensive D but he produces no offense.
Wings have had 14 D with 500 mins of 5v5 ice time in the last 3 seasons.
Cholowski is 13th in points per 60, which placed him ahead of only Ericsson. |

On draft day I said Chychrun would become a top pair stud and Cholowski would be a total bust. Called it one of the worst moves in Ken Holland's history, which was later compounded by wasting that cap space on Frans Nielsen, not to mention re-signing Helm. Should have just absorbed Datsyuk's cap hit and added a cheaper middle 6 forward.
I was called an arrogant know-it-all and then banned. |

Lmao the Duffer will get ya
Cholo is a terrible defenceman and seems to be getting worse by the year. His advanced stats are putrid and he gives next to no offense. Which was supposed to be his strength. |

You were totally correct. Chycrun is a beast and unaffordable. That’s part of the burn. Not just how Cholowski hasn’t developed but how good Chycrun is. I’d give up a high first round pick plus for that kid |

Right? If a forward isn’t producing they help them work on their defensive game. I’m not seeing a ton of defensive improvement here. Maybe that’s unfair, but it feels like it |

Speaking of, Laine’s qualifier is 7.5M. Do you (or anyone here chime in) think he should get qualified at that number? He’s put up goals in the past, but something isn’t clicking right now. Would you go after him via trade? |

We’ve kind of talked back and forth on that. Do you think Detroit would have passed on him and just grabbed Smith if they didn’t have that pick? Honest question. Hronek has been an upside, for sure |

They didn't need that pick for Hronek. They had their own pick that was used just before Hronek that was used on Givani Smith. It was also very clear that drafting d-men was desperately needed, certainly more than a bottom 6 forward like Smith.
So to recap...
-don't make the trade
-select Chychrun
-don't select Smith but select Hronek instead
-somehow try to survive life without Givani Smith. Or just give it a few years and pick him up on waivers. |

I like Laine. He’s Vanek 2.0 and the issue is trying to force him into being a complete player imo. Just insulate/shelter him and let him score goals.
If the price is low I’m interested. Like the Washington pick and a prospect or two.
If the ask is high I wouldn’t be interested.
He’s the kind of guy that could take the power play from bottom 5 to top 5.
Bertuzzi down low. Larkin at bumper. Vrana on the right wall. Laine on the left wall. Seider up top. |

Yes Chychrun is great, but lets not pretend he was walking into a good situation in Detroit. Airzona has a semi competent team. I hate the we should have draft him or Hughes talk. They would have come to Detroit and skated with the likes of Ericsson, a washed up Kronwall, a mediocre/broken Dekes, or something other pile of garbage.
Do you really think they would have developed nearly the same as they did? They would have been sent to GR and we would have been waiting on what could be. Situations do play a factor and Detroit would have been an absolute dumpster fire for an offensive rookie defensemen to go to, mainly my reason for not wanting Hughes. |

when Lidstrom retired they should of knocked this thing down and started over. but no, they had to try and hang on with an aging datsyuk and zetterberg. if they did that they pain would of started earlier but they would def. be in a better spot right now
