I sure hope Treliving has the brains to resign Simon after that incredible year he had. |

Should be an interesting off season.
Lucic: ideally he keeps improving and someone trades for him - but IMO there's a strong argument, to trade him with a 1st - to free up room to sign Hall. Then you'd have the option to trade Gaudreau or Tkachuk, to go after a high end RW or recoup the 1st round pick + cap space.
This would turn Lucic's dead contract into a productive player, make our team bigger(sign Hall trade Gaudreau), get assets by trading Tkachuk or Gaudreau to address other needs (get younger players/picks & cap space to sign a second UFA).
This team follows a few trends though, whatever they'll do, it's somewhat likely to fit into one of these molds:
-a kid from Calgary or Western Canada
-another Swedish player
-a player from Tre's former team, Coyotes (rw Kessel? rw Garland?)
-a player from Sutter's former team, Kings (Calgarian Anderson-Dolan?)
-follow latest roster trend in NHL: sign an older former superstar that gets ditched by a rebuilding team
If they do bring in someone like Kessel, I could see Treliving sell it by saying "oh this is a young team that was underperforming, so this veteran will show them how to be consistent every year" - "veteran leadership" would become a common sound bite.. |

It wouldn’t suprize me. Treliving’s got 1 year to get this team back into the playoffs and make the 2nd round.
You forgot the part where he sends Florida 2nd to Seattle to protect Gio. |

I think the play with Gio, is trade him if you could upgrade someone who will be protected, or we should be the ones getting a draft pick for him. The good unprotectable players, should in theory, get traded to crappy teams like Buffalo, who are forced to protect scrubs.
This is magnified by the fact, that Seattle's in our division. We should undermine them.
Maybe they decide, Gio gets protected - then package Rasmus, 1st, Tkachuk for Eichel? You otherwise wouldn't do this, without the pressure of the expansion draft. Then you re-sign Stone, and pursue a cheap older star player from California (Sutter connection) |

I will talk trash when our garbage heap of a team makes some meaningful moves. At least the Oil have the makings of a decent foundation.
Any team in the league would be happy to have CM, LD, and DN to build around. |

It actually irks me that before the season tanev was SO bad what a terrible signing. Surprise he magically had a good season and we should hold onto him. I can agree a good season but if the flames are to fire sale start with him and get a good haul for him then. If the talk is trading with buffalo (I kinda hope not) then at least make sure to not get ripped off as for matty he will be the squad captain when the time is right the plan is to build around him I would think if not anyone else.
Just sayin |

If there is some sort of retool I think holding onto either Backs or Lindholm at C, and Tanev on D is crucial. Need some decent vets to shelter the younger guys. Otherwise, we turn into a Buffalo. |

By the time Treliving gets this team competitive enough to make some noice in the playoffs, Dube will be a veteran.
Seriously shop Backlund, don’t resign Ryan, promote from within. |

4. We traded away our highest draft pick ever for peanuts. To ensure we kept the 25year Flames legacy of giving up on Top End talent before their prime to stay below average.
This should’ve been #1. It truly made this a successful Year! |

For all you people who think this team is fine as is constructed, this is a quote from Sutter,
“This team was going to have to fight to be a playoff team,” he said last week. “We weren’t a top-three team in this division for sure. It was going to be a fourth-, fifth-place team, and that’s exactly the way it played out to be.”
Maybe this gives some hope for a retool, he barely sees this as a team able to make the playoffs.

We traded away our highest draft pick for exactly his worth. If you actually believe Sam Bennett is Top End talent, you need to switch the sport you watch.
I get your point but Sam Bennett was not going to live up to his draft hype. With the Panthers, he's thriving on piss and vinegar and doing what Sam does, play well in the playoffs...
And talking about Brett Hull or St Louis is like Oilers fans living on 80's Cup dynasties, irrelevant. |

When he was hired he said there were only two teams that he would consider coming back to coach, Calgary and Chicago. Both because he liked their management group. Who knows how much pull he has, but you would think he has to have a voice. No reason to come out of retirement if he doesn't.

And there’s no way Sam would have fit into this team of pillow fighters Tre is building.
We don’t want anyone that causes trouble on the ice.
Don’t fuking care where he was drafted, the fact that so many people think it was for the good of the team that bothers me. What kind of team are we wanting? |

Bennetts only 24yrs old. The guy hits, fights, pk's, fast and showed many bursts of talent. Ya, I'm definitely watching the wrong sport when it's a good idea to trade those guys away before their prime.
Look at Paul Byron in Mtl. Good thing we got rid of him before his prime too. 3 to 4 breakaways every game. Looks terrible with that A in mtl. Bust. |

People can’t get over the fact of where he was drafted, you’re not going to change anyone’s mind on that. People can’t ignore the stupid penalties he took for the first couple years even though he cleaned up that part of his game this year. He’s 24 and still growing his game, I hope the kid we got for him turns out and that Treliving can turn another 2nd into a gem.
The fact is that Sam added an element to the Flames that they truly lack and I don’t see anyone coming that can replace that. |
