Do the Wings want Andrew Copp? He's a Michigan guy, how does Tuomisto and that Rangers 2nd sound? |

Copp is worth a 3rd or Cholo or Svetchnakov and a 5th |

As a jets fan I’d love to see wheeler go. Not necessarily because of the player on the ice, but the money involved and as a Manitoban I catch wind of rumours that he’s caused a rift on more than one occasion within the locker room. It caused Laine to want out, and I don’t think the young Finn was the only one to be put off by the Captain... he was just the most obvious example based on publicly available commentary.
Wheeler has Maurice wrapped around his little finger. I think Maurice has coached his last game in Winnipeg. It’ll be interesting to see if that’s the case. And if so, how that affects the captain’s Control of the lineup and locker room.
We’re stuck with Dubois since his performance has his value sitting around half a cup of cold coffee. The kraken are going to poach a good forward unless Chevy dangles a carrot. Time will tell, but wheeler’s NMC is going to stay in place unless life becomes more uncomfortable for him. Just a thought, but Gerard Gallant solves a few problems in my opinion. But his tenures are always short lived, in hot climates... so Winnipeg likely isn’t a good fit. |

I actually think the Jets are one of the more likely teams Yzerman swings a deal with. They likely opt to leave Copp exposed. So he could be acquired for cheap. Decent middle 6 guy. But the more appealing target would be Logan Stanley. They likely protect Morrissey, Pionk, and DeMelo. DeMelo is locked up for just $3M and plays top 4 minutes. So Logan Stanley at 6'6 and just 23 years old is the guy I go hard after. Yzerman could either acquire him before the expansion draft, or potentially cut a deal with Seattle in advance to select Stanley and then flip him to Detroit. We've acquired 9 extra picks in the next 2 drafts so I'd have no problem trading a couple of picks for a guy like Stanley.
Surprised you dismissed the Jets so quickly. Lots of options here. |

Thanks for dropping that in. I get really nervous hinting at the team improving if BW was moved. People who love him will tear you a new one. He’s polarizing, for sure. For whatever reason, you’re either on his good side or bad side. I like Scheifele better as an overall leader. WPG has a chance to have a very good team, all under 30, and if they could win the Eichel sweeps it would be impressive. The right shakeup could energize the younger guys and move things forward in a positive way. Trouba wasn’t a great presence (everyone knew he was leaving) and that wears on players. Moving out negative forces and getting younger and stronger just seems like a no brainer if you can do it

There are, for sure, lots of options. I just don’t see the Jets valuing picks as much as trying to keep their talent (and possibly dump some higher contracts). If Yzerman can swing it, like I said at the end, I will be impressed and reverse course. I feel like Winnipeg will want to bring in either Jones or Eichel and try to put together a really nice young package for Buffalo. They’ll probably try and make a deal with Seattle. They’re just so much more in a win now mode than we are, and I’m not certain what all they would want from this roster to move that forward. If I’m wrong and Yzerman makes a huge deal with them, it’s just another reason he’s so good at what he does. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I get it very, very wrong.
For sure, if he does the deals you’re mentioning you will get serious props from me. You know that even if we disagree I love when you come around. Your energy and point of view make me have to re think things, and that’s a way I need to grow. The game is changing, and the flat cap/expansion draft and other odd factors make more things possible than ever. I love this comment section because it is a way for me to check my attitude and outlook. I believe I’m better off than a year ago because of you guys. It’s therapeutic too. I love what you guys come up with |

Picks are just currency that can be used for other trades. Or they make it easier to part with existing picks knowing you have a couple coming back. So if they want to go after Eichel maybe they offer Ehlers, Perfetti, a 1st, a 2nd, etc...The sting of losing those picks is lessened a bit if you get a 2nd +4th coming back in a Stanley trade. Just as an example.
Also, the liklihood of Seth Jones signing an extension in Winnipeg is about 0% so I highly doubt he's on their radar. A guy like Ekholm might be more realistic. If I was the GM I'd look at DeAngelo. They could use him on the PP. The room has plenty of veterans to keep him in line. |

I think DeAngelo got a raw deal. Apparently teams were looking around the deadline though. Because he’s so young, NYR is only on the hook for about 1/3 of his contract on a buyout. He was offered a termination deal (more like pressured) but would have given up a good chunk. Hockey media has treated him really badly. I wouldn’t mind a flyer on that kid at all |

DeAngelo has created his own problems, however I GUARANTEE if he were an outspoken liberal he would be treated better than he is particularly by the media. |

Logan Stanley just may be a strong possibility when you look at the Defenseman still in the Jets system like Heinola, Samberg & Gawanke. What a great on Ice presence at 6’-6”.
I still wondering if Dubois gets his wish to play wing or gets moved out? Does Stevie take a shot at him? |

Ok. I see him as a 6'6 physical guy that can play on your 3rd pair and partner with a more mobile guy on the right side. And at 23 some room to improve. But good argument. |

Yeah I’m gonna pass on the D that can’t skate or move the puck that was propped up by PDO. But hey he’s tall. |

I don’t see much reason to think Stanley is likely to ever be much more than a fringe NHLer. Bad numbers in the AHL, bad numbers in the NHL, 23 is certainly not over the hill but definitely not a prospect anymore. Most players are already ~90% of their peak or more by that age.
I don’t care much about the fact that he’s 6’7”. Not because size isn’t important in the abstract, but because I tend to think it’s already “baked into” the analysis.
Yes size is obviously an advantage, as anybody who has watched or played knows. Better reach. Harder to knock off the puck. Harder to move in front of the net. Etc. The mistake is thinking that a guy who is 6’7” and still sucks despite his size advantage is ultimately going to develop into a better player than, say, a 5’10” player who is getting much better results at the same age against the same competition. All that tells me is that the tall guy is much, much, much less talented than the short guy, and probably always will be. |

kyle connor for seider,
we need a right shot D, you get one of the best young goal scorers in the NHL locked up on a great deal who is also a local and great friends with Larkin |
|
|

also, sadly Bryan Little is most likely done and will finish his contract on LTIR |
