In my opinion, you don’t make bad deals until your team is on the verge of winning a cup. If a bad deal or two gets you over the finish line, then it’s worth it. We are a long ways from that point.

This reeks of another Okposo or Lucic signing which will be one of the worst contracts in 2 years.

I’ll make the note. It was Dreger who reported that teams are trying to get his rights to give him 8 years and the dollars being discussed are at $5 million.

This is the right mindset. Nothing worse for a team on the upswing than bad contracts.

Stevie is feigning interest just to drive the market up on Hyman thus driving the price up on Bert as well!

Hyman I believe Is 29 years old so a smart deal would look like 18 million for 3 years. Hyman to Detroit Is a hard sell, I'm guessing Zach can hook up with a team that Is closer to a Stanley Cup.

He is. I did a bit of an age breakdown in the write up. Nearly same age as LaPointe when he got his big payday for 5.25m in Boston back in ‘01

Sounds like Avs offered Landeskog 8x5.25. Never thought it would be that level. VAN supposedly out if Hyman wants more than 5 yrs

This has Kenny Holland written all over it dishing out max term and max money for 29 years old "new toy"
There is no way Yzerman touches that length and no way Hyman wants to come into a rebuild with that many suitors bidding.

Year 5 if they're lucky. Maybe for an immediate contender it makes sense, but most teams the risk is too high.

I also like Hyman, but keep reminding myself that there are always some good players like that emerging from every draft class. I hate to admit it, but the key thing for a team is timing: You have to position your netfront "piano-mover" guy to hit his peak just as your team is ready to contend, knowing that type of player tends to have a fairly short "shelf life" in the league. In the meantime, I focus on rooting for the guys I like to have their success and hope they get to cash in on it when they can.
