Carol Schram: Canucks trade for Ekman-Larsson & Garland draft Klimovich in Round 2
For the Vancouver Canucks, the main focus of draft weekend is a blockbuster trade. On Friday, Jim Benning moved out three players and three draft picks, including this year's first rounder, to acquire defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and forward Conor Garland from the Arizona Coyotes. In the second round on Saturday, Vancouver selected Belarusian scoring star Daniela Klimovich. |

Thanks Carol.
Onesmall posted last blog that he was ranked between rounds 4-6 before the u18s. After a good u18s and probably a decent showing at the WC he moved up quite a bit.
Looking forward to more surprises JB has in store for Canucks fans in the later rounds. |

I heard this is a weak draft, So I wouldnt get to worked up, I'm looking forward to the year and more offloading of jake, Holtby and possibly Schmitt.

Hypothetically if they can buy out virtanen and move holtbys entire cap hit maybe they could squeeze Savard in and keep Schmidt
Oel Hughes Schmidt Myers Savard Rathbone that should be decent but it could be one of the highest paid crappy d cores in the league as well |

I don’t think 10+ goals is a reasonable expectation for OEL anymore. He’s not likely to get much PP time and will probably be the Edler replacement - matchup D. He will probably have a positive effect overall the next couple seasons though.
Would much rather have kept the draft pick but it is what it is. |

The Canucks could have just paid what STL paid for Buchnevich for Garland. |

Looks much better than last season, maybe switch Pearson and Podkolzin, once Podkolzin gets his feet wet. |

Yeah, not sure there is any organizational depth however. Injures could end up being an excuse this year. Going to need to sign a plethora of $975 guys for the AHL that can fill in for the NHL team. |

I get the feeling Green will never pull Pearson off of Bo's wing.

Bo did apparently push for management to sign him to an extension, I remember that being reported by someone |

I'd say that's a top 10 forward line up in the league, the only problem is the defense is probably bottom 10 in the league. |

Agent Dan Milstein : I’ll call Vancouver. Options KHL or CHL. A lot would depend on speaking with Vancouver.

Klimovich was selected by Rouyn-Noranda in the CHL import draft in 2020.
Sounds like the plan is for him to play the QMJHL next season. #Canucks |

According to JB, OEL is the top defensemen on our team, maybe that'll put us up a couple spots. There was a stat that every Canucks GM who traded the #9 pick eventually got fired the next season, so I am not hopeful that OEL is what he says he is.. |
