I have never seen him play hockey but that is a character kid who I am cheering for to succeed. Very humble beginnings (including limited training equipment) and a lot of determination, a few good people supporting him. am i tearing up?

Great that the Jets signed Stanley and he will prove to be the most important RFA signing this season. His long term value will surpass Pionk and most definitely Copp. As long as Maurice doesn't label Stanley as a project that needs even more time to develop or with their new d-man signings a fringe d-man that is now at the bottom of the Jets list of d-men who he can relegate to the press box.

Watched that last night and thought it was great. A very cool insight to how meaningful the draft is to the players

It was refreshing to see pierre-luc Dubois do something classy today. They put on Sportsnet that he is changing his number to 80 in honor of the death of the Columbus goalie and ex-teammate.

I don’t know if any of you have been watching field hockey at the Olympics. It’s a very interesting game and I just cannot get over how different it is from floor, road and ice hockey.

Too bad, would've been such a great addition for the Jets.

I like Nurse, but I don’t know how Edm. Makes that fit, nor do I think he’s worth over about 8.

I like him as well. Just a big number I would have thought 8 x $7 or $7.5

That is all PoMo has done to the kid. Stanley wouldn't have been given a chance if Beaulieu hadn't been on the LTIR. 28 games without a single 5v5 goal against, then healthy scratched. He then was benched following the deadline acquisition of Benn, who was hot garbage on the ice. Add Dillon and Schmidt to the mix, and Stanley is back on the outside looking in.

PoMo still thinks Wheeler can log 22 minutes a night, and had PLD as their 3rd highest forward for TOI. He doesn't adapt or change but simply caters to a few specific players. I assume Schmidt will play his off-wing, and jump to over to RD, but with Jomo and Dillon locking down the top 2, he still has to compete with Heinola, Samberg, and PoMo's favourite pet Beaulieu. Love Stanley's game and he has done nothing but play great hockey since wearing a Jets Uni.

Maurice thinking Wheeler can still play 22 minutes a night and his catering to a few specific players will be a major hurdle for this team to overcome.

I'm pretty sure Stanley will slot in on the 3rd pair ahead of Beaulieu and NateB will be the 7th dman but I really wonder what the acquisitions of Schmidt and Dillon mean for Heinola, what was the point in sliding his ELC if you were just going to block his path to the team by acquiring two dmen, I can understand acquiring one of these guys but not both.

The point of all of this is the Jets feel they have a window and are going to go for it the next 2-3 years

Right or wrong who knows but the West is pretty wide open. I don’t think Vegas and Colorado improved this summer and some $$ stresses and lack of prospects coming to Vegas!

For me I can’t complain about them being passive and then complain when they aren’t lol

I would not be surprised if Heinola and/or our 1st in play at the trade deadline

Window talk always bothers me. The Jets don’t have a 2-3 year window! Shiefele, Wheeler and Maurice do! We have ample talent under 26 to insure the Jets window will remain open a long time. Replacing Maurice and Wheeler will be a net positive, Shiefele will hurt but hopefully one of PLD or Perfetti fill that role. The only long term question the Jets have, as do all teams, is who will be the number one goalie in 3-6 years if and when Helle declines.

Connor
Ehlers
PLD
Perfetti
Lucious
Heinola
Samberg
Stanley
And a few others definitely have run ways much longer than 2-3 years

The window is referring to this team currently under contract with Hellybuck’s age and other taken into conversation.
Of course we have prospects, we seem to participate in the drafts……

No team has an everlasting window

IMO I think the Jets have picked now to be more aggressive

I’m hearing Phaneuf is finally healthy and heading to Winnipeg to work out before his PTO. He wasn’t ready last year.

How much better are the Jets?
They have the same top 6 that they rely on to score most of their goals, only a year older
Bottom 6 is probably worse with Perreault and Appleton gone
Back-up goalie worse

That only leaves their defense, better sure, how much better than having Heinola and Beaulieu playing instead, and also in Maurice's system is probably not going to make a significant difference.

The good news is that if Hellebuyck's trend continues this should be his Vezina nomination year.

the Jets biggest issue has been and will remain Maurice.

bottom 6 will be fine, we also don't have Thompson or Lewis anymore who although didn't make too many mistakes, had zero chance of scoring. Gustaffson, Harkins, Vessalainen all deserve there shots

i'm surprised at the attention the loss of LB is getting. he played 14 games last year, reality always has been if Helle went down we are screwed with or without LB. lets give Comrie a chance and if he fails there is Berdin, Holm or someone like Dubnyk can be signed.

I suspect that when the Pionk/Copp scenarios are settled, Jets will sign a goalie for around league minimum. Can't see Comrie as the #2.

My biggest concern about LB moving on (good on him) is that we know that his chemistry with Helly works. Some goalies just have a way of bringing out the best in thier counterparts (Fleury and Fuhr come to mind) and the counterpart plays the best in their career alongside the guy. Whoever it is they will spend a lot of time together and much like any workplace co-workers impact each others performance and state of mind. Helly may be just fine but there is some risk just because it is a change.

Comrie is well-liked....by coaches, by teammates, and unfortunately opposition shooters.

Comrie is a better goalie than what we give him credit for. His numbers have been outstanding in the AHL and he is far more NHL ready than Berdin who makes great highlight reel plays but has a bad habit of getting burned out of the net or pressing a for an outlet pass that isn't there.

Comrie is a small athletic goalie. With smaller goalies however, with a weak defense, they have a habit of cheating when they have a weaker defense in front of them. This creates a higher level of opportunity on the rebound as they will be caught out of position. Comrie also never got a chance to get comfortable in a system with so many teams claiming him off waivers. We need to remember that his worst NHL game (2019/20 season) was when he was in net for Detroit and the Jets scored 5 on him. You have to think the Jets knew from years of practice where to go on him for that game.
