Hains: Je me souviens
Last season, for the first time ever, the Montreal Canadiens played a game without a single French-Canadian player in the line-up. It shouldn’t happen again anytime soon. |

Good blog but, to play Devil's advocate:
"The most cynical might even say it was a public relations move prompted by both what happened last season and the backlash from that pick in the first round"
Really? You'd have to be cynical, let alone the most cynical to come to that conclusion?
"the Canadiens took the steps necessary to ensure that what happened last season won’t happen again and for that at least, they deserve some praise"
Praise, really? For giving in to the angry language politics/group I can think of accurate terms that are much worse to call them, they deserve praise? All this did was show complete and utter weakness...it was a pretty limp wristed response to political BS...just weak |

The one thing Habs don't have is a star quebec born player. There's enough guy in the prospect pool that could turn into bottom 6 solutions moving forward (Harvey-Pinard and Teasdale for example).
They did try to get one in the Drouin trade, it just didn't turn out the way we all hoped.
Now let's throw all the money at Huberdeau in 2023 ok? |

I'm pretty sure they drafted the guys they did because they had potential.
It had absolutely nothing to do with Mailloux.
The fact there were many from the Q might only be a consequence of them playing the whole year vs other leagues not playing at all.
I'm not giving them praise for it unless this drafts brings us good NHL players.
I do wish they would have made as much effort as the Preds did to draft L'Heureux though.... |

I don't mind it either. I'm actually surprised they didn't trade away the picks instead, like they usually do. |

I think it was a number of factors coming together but between the female doging about french players last season, the players brought in through FA and the draft it does become hard to argue, based on their history, that they didn't make a concerted effort to bring in more Quebec guys. I'm not saying it's Drouin for Sergachev level stupidity but I don't ever agree with doing things because of the opinion of others because it shows a lack of conviction and frankly creates a tail wagging the dog situation |

They never tried to get one and it had turned out the way they all hoped.

To pretend Florida and Quebec have the same issues with the origins of their players isn't common sense.
It's just a joke.
