Carol Schram: More on the Olympic schedule, Juolevi's new contract, Pettersson speaks As the NHL continues to work towards a decision on the 2022 Winter Olympics, here's an update on the tournament format, as well as Olli Juolevi's new contract and the lay of the land for unsigned Jason Richardinson, Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson.

After that crazy contract negotiation with Bertuzzi vs Burke vs Owner years and years ago I’ll never worry about if a player signs or not again. Same situation with Naslund. All the fan angst for nothing. And in the long term it never really matters. It’s a waste of time and energy to worry about it.

EP40 wants to win.

He's letting mgmt know that he wants the team to be competitive every year and won't re-sign when he gets to UFA if the team is 'rebuilding' again.

I don't see the controversy.

Yeah, I feel like the organization would have a lot more to worry about than 1 player if they're not a consistent playoff team 3-5 years from now.

With 2 innocent Canadians sitting in a Chinese jail, it would be appalling to send a Canadian team to China.

Pass on the Olympics, btw are the Japan Olympics still going?
If the team doesn't improve I see Pettersson, Hughes, Miller and Bo all wanting out.

Would be great if the Camadian Olympians started opting out of the games.

If you want to relive the drama…

It was handled very poorly by Brian Burke and the Owner at the time. They squabbled over what ended up being a four-year deal worth $27.8 million ($4.3m per) for arguably one of the top players at the time.

Now the numbers seem trivial.

One time! Other than that, Burkie was always very congenial in negotiations....

he was right about RJ Umberger though, drove him to the airport and history would prove it to be no big lose other than wasting a 1st round pick

Did a quick search for Burke quotes… some beauties in there. Love the one about Trent Klatt.

I don't think it's controversial per se, just not a lot of athletes come out and claim they'd leave their team to win – especially at Petey's age. Vancouver fans are on the edge at the best of times, and their crown jewel coming out and saying that is a bit of a shock. Especially since we were gifted with so many years of loyalty with the Sedins.
