He did well, especially for a rookie, but I think that we need to slow the hype train a little. His usage and success were roughly equal to Ben Hutton's the year before. Ben then moved on and really struggled. Remember, also, the early excitement over Forbort. While not everyone looks good partnered with Doughty (see: Maatta), not everyone who does look good with Doughty has a future as a top-pairing defender (or even a bright future at all). We also shouldn't forget that Roy was the defenseman being gushed over last Summer and that he was a lot less exceptional this season. A year from now, hype for Anderson might have cooled and everyone might be gushing over Clague. We should try to avoid getting too excited and expecting too much after only one season, IMO. |
