Greatest Ranger ever. Messier will always be the most iconic, but no one was dominant as Hank was for as long for us.

Crzy to think Hank and Luongo are top 10 goalies all time arguably-neither won. Not sure how people view Cujo, but that's another one.

Great stuff Jan, i’m happy he only played with the Rangers. He was the face of the franchise and deserved to be a one team guy, much like Carey Price.

I'm not trying to troll here. Do you see Carey following a similar arc to Hank? In terms of parallels, elite goalie not getting a ton of support up front are there.

Winning the cup is so damn hard. From 2012 to 2015 it’s just such a shame for all of us they couldn’t get over the hurdle but there was some incredible moments along the way.

i think they did all they could to put the best team around him starting in 2011. But they did a very poor job of it from 2006-2011. Some of those defensemen were atrocious. Top pair of Malik and Roszival. Signing Redden. Oooofa.

Hank was incredible those years and they often get forgotten.

I thought he slowed down a bit by the 2015 Tampa series. Some kinks in the armor showed there and then his last moment of greatness was the first round vs Montreal in 2017.

Should have won more than one Vezina. It’s ridiculous he didn’t win in 2013 IMO.

And was the best goalie in 2007, 2008 and 2011 I don’t care what the stats say.

I compare Roszival alot to Trouba. Michael was better than people want to remember, but probably miscast as a #1 (similar to Trouba). Redden was a bad signing that was always a bad signing, but I don't think anyone could have anticipated quite how bad he was. He was probably a solid career 3 or 4 and he couldn't even live up to that. I give alot more crap to the front office for not adaquatly replacing Jagr until Gabby fell into ourlaps. It just kind of sucks we only got a half season of Nash and Gabby together. We probably don't make the Final without Brass, but offense was always a struggle for us during the Hank years after Jagr and I don't know why the team felt the need to deal Gabby so fast.

Hell of a career, and hell of a goaltender...maybe the best of his time period. Seemed like he was rarely the absolute best in any given year, but he was always among the top-three goalies every year, and I can't think of another goalie during that time period who was that consistently good for that long.

One of the very few great goalies of the salary cap era. The best of his generation.

Lundqvist was better. More consistently good for longer.

Better by a country mile

And you know that if a Pens fan and an Isles fan are agreeing that a Ranger's player is better than someone on a non-rival team then it must be true

Price had a few years where he was amazing. Plenty of goalies are like that though. Consistency is what separates the great goalies though. And Lundqvist was well above average for such a long time frame he gave the Rangers a chance every season and playoffs.

Not a knock on Price, he's a phenomenal goaltender. But Lundqvist in his prime was significantly better than Price.

I wouldn't argue this. If Hank has a cup, a think a ton of people would rank him as close to a top 5 all time goalie. I can only think of Roy and Hasek in my lifetime that had a long stretch of elite years, even Brodeur had a precipitous drop off in the 2000s. I brought him up earlier, but I'd put Price in the CuJo tier. Someone who can be elite, but probably not as consistent as the true HoF tier guys. I think because he plays for the Habs, Price has an OK shot at getting in the HHOF, but I think Hank is clearly better.

Even without the Cup I think Hank is a first-ballot HoF'er

Just a thought but maybe they should try and schedule the retirement for when Carolina is in town. That team is loaded with Hank’s former teammates Including Fast and Stepan.

Good for Hank, happy that he never skated for another NHL team.

How could he not even mention his beautiful wife of over 10 years in his statement?
OOPS!
