If Chabot is still here at the end of his contract it would probably mean that we've been enjoying years of great Sens hockey. We need an invisible Melnyk and a GM that doesn't do too many stupid things.

I don't know Pierre McGuire but it has been suggested by a couple of hockey writers that he might be the next GM.
Like I said I don't know him but if he turns out to just be a tool for Melnyk to use in order to demonstrate to the world his hockey genius well then all bets are off.

Yes very true. Well the owner did say unparalleled success fro 2021-25, remember that quote? Spending to the cap etc.

I think if Dorion isnt given an extension by December we can start to think that McGuire was hired to be the next GM and maybe they move Dorion into another role.

Unless you are about to contend for a Cup, no team should extend a 31 year old player on a long term deal. Teams are learning that it is better to move the asset rather than get caught up in a bidding war.

Retirement contracts like the ones given to Karlsson, Doughty, Tavares and Pietrangelo are anchors around the neck of the long term aspirations of teams.

Trading a player before his final year, when his market value remains high, makes the most sense in almost every situation.

Asset managers know how important it is to move an asset before it begins the inevitable decline.

So if teams are going to reward 23 year old players with long term max deals, they need to swear off the idea of resigning aging fan favourites.

Unless he asks for a trade he will. If you can put a competitive team around him he will be the #1 PMD that you need. I was fortunate enough to watch him live frequently during his junior career, and although his defensive game still needs some fine tuning, he has an incredible offensive instinct with an accurate hard shot and the hands of a skilled forward. Not to mention he can skate with almost anyone...

CFL Ottawa at Saskatchewan tonight. The Riders come out and give er and give er more, Ottawa just looks completely demoralized. Gainer on the sideline with his megaphone is just given er and given er to the Ottawa bench. Coach Paul is incensed and is looking for Police, Gainer won't relent he just continues to give er and give er.

University of Saskatchewan Huskies Marching Band put on a helluva Half-Time show spelling out Saskatchewan Roughriders like the Ohio State Marching. The band was just given er and given er on banjos, fiddles, bagpipes, and massive bass drums.

Quick Six is pretty much run out from giving er and giving er. Most Saskatchewan Fans brought their fiddles, banjos and tubas to serenade Ottawa after every Roughies TD, they must be exhausted from given er and given er in this Regina heat.

And this is the story from Regina on this sultry night. It's going to be a long 29-hour bus ride back to Ottawa tonight.

Chabot is a pretty strong candidate to be a life-long Senators player... if anyone from the rebuild era retires with the team, I'd say it will be him. But players like White/Murray will almost certainly be gone whenever it best suits the team. Ironically, both also have substantial salary increases due in the final year of their deals, which kind of puts the writing on the wall.

In other news, is there any chance that Quebec might be a potential destination for the Arizona Coyotes, now that their lease has been cancelled in Glendale? Houston was rumored to be the front-runner, but Quebec City actually has the 7th largest arena in Canada with >18,200, which would also immediately be the 16th largest stadium in the NHL. We'll have to see what happens, but an 8th Canadian team would certainly re-ignite NHL interest in the more traditional markets, and give the league a pretty clean 8:24 structure (i.e. Canada:USA teams).

if houston already has a NHL ready arena, the team will go to houston to keep the balance of 16/16, as for market, houston would be much much larger than quebec, there is little to no chance quebec gets a team anytime soon, they would be smaller than winnipeg, and with the Nords being gone for so long, most kids/Teens are/would be Habs fans so would be harder for them to establish themselves among the young.

i strongly believe none of Chabot, Brady, Norris, Batherson, Stutzle, Sanderson, Pinto will be a sens when they hit 30YO if melnyk is still owner. i do not think most of them, apart from chabot, will be a sens when they hit their first year of UFA eligibility. Melnyk will not pay them and will trade them or they will leave in UFA, melnyk is absolute no way wants to build a cup contenting team like Tampa or Pittsburg or Boston ect, he wants a playoff making team, and a cheap one.
