First, Happy Birthday Bill! It is also my brother Jim’s Birthday! Your retrospective from 20 years ago is similar to all of our who are old enough to remember. WE WILL NEVER FORGET has become the phrase of a generation. Thanks for not including those bastards that crashed those planes and I m not surprised that Mr Brendl didn’t have a clue as to how important the events unfolding in front of him were. I would hope his teammates would enlighten him. Be well everyone.

Today is almost identical to what that day was like. Beautiful blue skies, not too hot.

Ill remember every detail until the day I die.

Happy birthday Bill!

God bless America and all my great friends to the south.

I remember that day so vividly. As a member of the Canadian military, so much changed in an instant, however I am proud of how our countries became even closer in solidarity.

Happy Birthday, Bill and thank you for the thoughtful retrospective on that terrible day. I was in the military, stationed in California when I got awoken by a phone call by my supervisor telling me what had happened. I remember the commotion outside the barracks as the base scrambled to go on full lockdown. Things I’ll remember for the rest of my life. God Bless America and Never Forget.

Happy Birthday Bill,
It’s unfortunate to share a birthday on a day that is such a negative memory this countries history.
Neverless we all can’t choose when we are born.
I was working in a house and heard about the first plane on WZZO.
The ladies home where I was working had a tv next to exercise equipment in the basement.
Normally I would never touch a customers stuff I turned on the news in time to see the second plane hit.
After a few minutes I went upstairs and told the painters.
When the owner came home she turned on the big TV upstairs and we watched with little spoken.
As an immigrant she was moved and horrified as any American would be at the ideology that drives people to do evil.

Thanks Bill. You are the best.
Thanks for the thoughtful write up.
I wish you a happy birthday, surrounded by loved ones.
It's a very somber day of memories, I hope you make some new, more pleasant ones today.

Happy Birthday Bill and I know what you mean about a job you love, it is not work..

My most difficult memories about 9-11 go beyond the day it happened. A close friend ( another game worn hockey jersey collector who also played hockey) originally from Boyertown area, who lived in Pittsburgh called and was driving in to Philly asking about parking his car and going to 30th St Station taking the train to north NJ.. he was going to NYC to search for his brother who worked in the towers in that bond firm...he went up there and spent several days looking for his brother and ultimately finding out he didn't make it out. Several years later my friend died from a cancer that was most likely caused by breathing in that poison in the air those days up there..Other people I knew only casually who didn't make it out were hockey players from another old timers hockey team at Beacon Hill CC in north NJ who worked in the Towers. We played against them up there and they came to our skating club in Chestnut Hill ( Wissahickon Skating Club) and we all broke bread together after the games at the rinks

On 9/11 was actually working in the Defense Industry for the company that designed, manufactured and supported most or many of the secure phones in the White House, Pentagon and other locations. For those that may have worked on or with them specifically the STE/STU phones and Privatel encryption devices.

That day started normal for me. I was in the car on the way to the office listening to Howard Stern who started talking about the first plane hit. I knew how serious it was when I pulled up to the front gate and armed military were patrolling and being very demonstrative in their questions and commands.

The rest of the day was broken up into these pockets of people all huddled together in whatever area they had the clearance to be in. I ended up in a group with other IT folks, part of the medical staff and most of the Navy liason group we had on campus. I remember the second plane hitting, the room was dead silent and someone directly to my right started to sob and tremble. At that time one of the Navy officers firmly and quietly put his hand on this person's shoulder and did everything he could to help them.

It's such a little gesture but that single movement by that officer is the one thing I remember all the details for.

Well said. Unfortunately, my grandparents witnessed all three events. I hope 9/11 is the last such one in my lifetime.

Sadly history is not taught as history today good or bad. It’s taught that the USA is bad period.
Without a doubt this country has its sins. We have also done a tremendous amount of positive things.
The American people are some of the most generous you could ever know.
Never Forget!
For those of you with young children pass on what you know and what you witnessed.
It’s a crying shame it’s takes a tragedy for the country to come together.

I taught history and civics for a decade so I would like for you to explain what parts of history is being taught that states "the USA is bad, period"?

How about the 1619 project for starters. Don’t be a jackoff. Listen to man on the street type interviews from a high majority of college kids.
They are taught that the USA deserves what happens to it such as 9/11.

I was listening to him as well. I remember he was calling it a Bin Laden move immediately before any fingers were officially pointed his way.

lmao, you can't even explain the 1619 project without reciting the Fox News talking points on it, I bet.
