It will really be interesting to see how Wolf does in the AHL, I really hope he does well. The Flames need one of their goaltender prospects to perform at the next level. So many high expectations for Gillies and Parsons. |

It's futile to have any expectations about any goalie before they get to the NHL.

Well before you get to the NHL you have to progress to the next level. I was just saying let’s see how he does. The Flames have a bad record with goalies and they totally screwed up with JSG by trading or releasing back in the day. |

What? If we don’t get excited about our prospects, even goalie prospects, why are we even fans? That’s part of the whole package. Crap, I’m hoping, excited that Wolf followed Hart and might turn out to be as good or better.
To say well it’s a goalie, pffft! Wtf!
Come on, you can’t tell me you aren’t excited for the he prospect of maybe wolf turning into something special. |

Are there any current goalies that are Wolf’s size? Anyone since Vernon that has been Wolf’s stature and made a difference?
I think Mackey is the only youngen that will steal a roster spot. |

Has there ever been a goalie who went from Juniors straight into NHL and became a starter? Just curious. |

John, IF Pelletier or Zary amaze Sutter, they could simply put one of the scrubs on waivers to clear space IIRC... |

Arguably, Halak and Saros are the most comparable current goalies who, in the case of Halak, have made their mark, and Saros who has established himself as a #1. Then there's Tim Thomas, Jimmy Howard, Dominik Hasek who were all smaller athletic goalies that made an impact at the NHL level.
I share the cautious outlook on Wolf, but for me it has nothing to do with size, it's just that he hasn't played enough above the WHL level yet to warrant getting a feeling one way or another.
Development of players is fastest among forwards and slowest among goalies generally, so I just don't get too amped about goalies seeing the hype for Parsons, Gillies, Ortio, Irving, MacDonald etc not pan out. I just don't know that the Flames have had the right luck and/or development at the position to warrant getting super hyped right now.
If we wanna get hyped about a kid, I think Pelletier is our next Mangiapane. |

Juuse Saros comes to mind. |

I'd be more excited if old man Sutter didn't bring in 30+ y/o plugs to jam up the bottom 6. |

Or if Treliving didn't let his head coach dictate every move? |

Do you think this trade is fair? Pinto is a SOLID prospect |

You think it's him? Ownership has been meddling with the hockey decisions of this franchise since day 1, and it still continues. They love Sutter and I'm of the opinion Brad is nothing more than a puppet at the moment. |

Everything you said and what's been done indicates that Dutter is making the GM decisions.
I just don't understand the Gudbranson AND Stone signings. One or the other, sure but not both. Seems redundant to me. Instead of following the Tampa model and getting skilled and fast, the Flames are continuing to get slow and tough. Boomer and the fellas keep saying the Flames are going to be "Islanders light" but even the Isles have guys that can move. |

Been saying this for years. Blocking opportunity for our prospects, seems to be a way of life for Treliving. |

Agreed, I found those to be very puzzling signings. At one point I remember thinking Gudbranson felt like an inevitable signing, but still not one that the Flames should make. And definitely not at $2M and definitely not at the expense of Mackey and Kylington getting a legitimate chance to play top 6 minutes this year to see what we have. The last thread was titled "Flames stuck in neutral". I think they are actually in reverse at the moment. |

I don't know, does anyone expect either to play in 82 games? I think some of the rookies will get a chance but those two signings give some, call it stability. I think (IF) we can make the playoffs, those are the guys you want in a grinding series. Same as Zadorov. |

I see bringing in all these vets as a way to change the culture in the room.
The stars just showing up and going through the motions has to stop.
It also makes the rookies work harder and earn a spot.
Old time hockey. |

I personally don't think Kylington deserves a look. I was surprised when they re-signed him, tbh. |

Completely but I was more referring to what Tre said, not Francis's opinion. |
