Matt Ross: Monty Claimed by MTL

Payback for swiping juulsen last year. Montreal coulda taken him back he was terrible. Always hate losing someone for nothing but weve had our shared of scores the same way.... forsling!

Thought Buffalo might’ve taken a chance on him. Monty showed some flashes when he got a chance. But since they drafted Knight, he has been getting passed on the depth chart, first by Driedger, and now this year by Gibson. Don’t think he got a lot of games in the AHL last year, as the Panthers prospects were playing for TB’s team in Syracuse. How long is Price going to be out? Monty probably has that much time until he’s waived again. Hopefully he shows well in the chances he gets until then.

I guess we both owe each other a Coke. You guessed they’d keep him around for injury purposes and I guessed he would be part of a package in a trade. Haha.

Didn’t realize Gibson was so far ahead of him in camp. Gibson’s game in Dallas seemed to seal the deal. Maybe FL is hoping for another Driedger-like late bloomer in the experienced AHL goalie. Monty’s development maybe stalled here by sitting on bench being the backup to Reimer when Lu was out injured, and then last year I guess he was playing as Syracuse’s backup because Charlotte sat out the AHL season. Maybe Monty will wind up being a “late bloomer” after he gets some solid playing time in the AHL.

I also hope Monty finds success. With Price out, Monty or Primeau will probably back up Allen. This was a depth move.....
