Carol Schram: Pettersson, Hughes have arrived; Canucks beat Jets; roster cuts announced
On a busy Sunday, the Vancouver Canucks presented Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes, back in camp with their new contracts in hand. Jim Benning also provided other roster updates, including 16 training-camp cuts, and Vancouver took care of Winnipeg by a 3-2 score with fans back at Rogers Arena.
Really love the energy and skill Garland brings, guys like him and Hoglander are fun to watch. Also think that OEL-Poolman have pretty good natural chemistry. Can't wait to see the full lineup put together. Great job by Benning this off-season!

I hope Garland starts the season in the top six as intended by Benning.

Horvat Pearson have looked good so far . Poolman and OEL looks like very good signings but it is preseason .
Rick D said on his show Hamonic is starting to feel like he is in a better place , whatever the hell that means ? Maybe he got traded to play with scoring sensation Loui Eriksson?

its still early. Quality of competition isnt the same as regular season. He has been good for sure, but it will be much different when he faces true high end competition instead of fringle NHL and AHL players along with the NHL ones he has faced.
On the same token, it's also too early to sway one way another on Podkolzin. I dont believe what a few are saying around here in that he has been worse than Klimovich or other prospects. New systems, language barriers, new team mates, its all going to take time. The fact that he hasn't looked out of place and has looked responsible defensively has me more optimistic than if he was scoring goals but also getting beat or being out of position all the time.

I know... I don't know why people keep insisting on mirroring them, even the idea that he's a 4/5 year younger Edler. He can get a shot through on net from the point. Edler was poor at that always and horrible even 4 years ago. A 30 year old OEL is way more mobile than Edler ever was. Edler plays more physical. OEL can make mistakes... but doesn't brain freeze almost every time pressure is put on him while he holds the puck.
The differences out number the similarities. I mean, they are both Swedish and both defensemen... there is that....

I noticed that while Edler is more physical, OEL plays a bit more greasy, if someone gives him a slash, he'll give one back while Edler usually just skated away. He has a bit more of a temper than Edler which I like

Agreed.
I think they are two very different players.
OEL is also much better than Edler was at skating the puck out of the zone and down the ice. The differences keep stacking up.

That would drive me nuts with Edler. 1000 games including playoffs and one fight or should I say ass kicking. Turn the other cheek Eddie.
I wonder how many other Canucks had to fight because of him seeing he wouldn't respond . How many other Canucks received a cheap shot in retaliation because of refusing to drop them?
I liked Petan’s game & a chance he sticks while there is injuries. Gadj should stay up also. Lockwood is looking solid to stick while injuries run their course.
I see Pearson Bo Hog sticking together. Last season they had good chemistry. Makes Garland a nice luxury on the 3rd line once Boeser is back & surely on one of the PP’s. Maybe even the PK Idk. Overall scoring depth looks good but as I’ve said a few times team D & special teams need to be better this season & the ticket to the PO’s.
