The Coyotes are still in the NHL.....? Not for long with no agreement for a place to play soon.

Here's hoping he has a good season and turns into a 2nd or 3rd rounder at the TDL.

Coyotes looking to trade Kessel. $6.8M cap hit, but only owed $1M in salary. How would a retainer salary transaction work here? For argument’s sake, 50%.

1. Arizona retains 50% of salary cap hit, but acquiring team still required to pay $1M since its less than the $3.4M on their cap

2. Arizona retains 50% of only what is owed, and acquiring team has him on the books for $6.3M.

3. Arizona retains 50% as a whole, leaving the acquiring team with $3.4M against the cap and $500,000 owed to Kessel.

Not too often a contract like this comes up in retained salary transactions. “Poor” owners would love him. But Kessel holds the cards on the destination.

Its been 15+ years since it became obvious the Coyotes cannot generate local interest. Players are avoiding the franchise. Only pros without alternative options (ie. Galchenyuk) are willing to sign, and for a few years, a few agents have been dissuading the Yotes from drafting their prospects. There seems to be no hope of NHL success in Arizona. I cannot foresee the Yotes starting the 2022-23 season in Arizona.

Shane Wright or bust. The NHL wants that market whether the Yotes have success or not. Unless that changes, they’ll be in Arizona.

Agreed. This team will be a front-runner in the lottery. When Raanta and Kuemper were both unreal, and Hill was a great prospect, you sold the entire unit for mediocre returns, and replaced it with horrible tendy's. Wright and Bedard are certainly in your sights. Only 7 roster'd players inked next year and 52M cap space sure should help you boys as well. This is a blatant tank, but if you land one of those 2 guys, it will be worth it.
