Jeremy Laura: Greiss steals a game as Vancouver outplays Detroit, but Wings win 3-1

Wow. Greiss was stunning. We should’ve been absolutely waxed, but Greiss stood on his head. Great to see Zadina pot one. Raymond played his best Shakespearean character picking all those pockets. Friggin’ thief!!! He’s doing so many things correctly, still a way to go, but again…this kid’s going to be sneaky good. Mo Sides was great tonight 23+min, solid defensive play, showing progress. Good signs.

The hit with Zadina was a toss-up. One angle looked like Zad’s head hit the dude’s back, one seemed to show left elbow contact after a glancing blow by the right. The dude seemed to have had his elbow up going in. But Zadina looked like he altered his course resulting in contact. Again, perception, which is Kool…..FOW seemed to improve as the game wore on. Our guys need to improve in this area. It’s crucial that we have a better FOW%. Losing those always ends up costing, one way or another.

The stick to Mo Side’s nads??? Deliberate all day long. The dude lifted his stick into Happy Town. But, because the guys who had the pain inflicted upon him had a winged wheel…..SGT Schultz will fill in the blank.

Smith got physical, Raymond got in there, Hronek was BEGGING to go. What I didn’t like was Ras being hit with gloves on whilst not looking. Kinda reminded of the cretin Dylan Larkin throwing a gloved punch. Ras needs to spend some time with Smith and Tyson. Big dude like that needs to know how to be physical. It can’t all rest on Smith’s shoulders. He’ll be targeted, then after he’s been tossed the opposing players will have a field day.

Nice to see the win. Greiss earned that. Flat-out stood on his head. Will venture to say tonight was the best he’s played for the Wings, period. Good enough play to win, but this could’ve easily been an absolute shellacking if not for Greiss.

Hockey seems a bit more violent so far this season. Playing in front of fans has them all revved up and ready to show off! Everybody is getting chippy after a year of cabin fever!

Yeah, I hope they cool it a little. Stand up for the team, but don’t brawl after every other whistle

Yeah Laura 2 games into the season and this Wings team has a lot of excitement around them. Loving it.

Nice to get a win and 3 points in 2 games, but we need to get better in our own zone quickly. Allowing the opposing teams the zone time in our end that we have so far is dangerous, and is not a recipe for success. And allowing 89 SOG is awful. I think we can coach better than that. This looks too much like 2019/2020. We need to force and pressure way more....all over the ice.
