Call it like it is They are done competing Last year they were amazing until the playoffs This is what you get for the end of a great run. Downhill from here on in.
Time for changes and assets for the future Do not make the same mistakes as other teams have done. Keep Sid and anyone else is available Letang has been good but it is a business Malkin has seen better days Do the fire sale and get assets before they walk for nothing. That would be a grave mistake. Reality bites |

I 'm sure there are some people who read this site and are still lying to themselves with "They can still do it. Let's go for one more in the Crosby/Letang/Malkin era." |

I watched Bobby Orr growing up and once had coffee with Gordie Howe and Don Cherry But all good things have to come to an end and that is where tough decisions have to be made. I hope they have enough common sense to make them. I do not think they brought Hextall and Burke in here to remain status quo. That is not the nature of the hockey business side of it. These new people have no real loyalty to any of these guys on the roster and that is the way it should be. Sounds cold and hard but reality bites |

I would have zero issue with them starting a tear down now. Keep 87 and anyone else is fair game. Or do they keep them longer to get more when trading to playoff teams who may over pay? |

Lets see how it goes for a while. The hard thing to get over is that the Pens have no cap space and we don't have the assets to acquire a key piece that could help this team turn into a contender.
If we are on the outside looking in when Malkin comes back I think its time to maximize value for assets.
Malkin with half retained to Edmonton for Turris, Holloway and a 1st.
Letang to whoever has a top pair RD go down for a prospect and a 1st.
Carter to the Panthers for a 1st.

I’m surprised you haven’t made this your location yet given your propensity to beat a dead joke into the ground. |

Although they probably no longer have the pieces for another Cup win their biggest problem right now is goaltending.
I thought the Pens of late 2015 looked worse than the current team, except that the goaltending was better back then.
There is also the possibility of covid or the olympics wrecking one or more of the division leading teams late in the season. |

Last time I checked the goaltending was horrible with MAF No trust in that prima donna. He is now finding our what it is like playing for a bad team. He was hidden here by playing for a good team. If he was that good he would have been Team Canada goalie for years along with Price But that did not happen because he was a head case |

I feel like people acting like this is a year tradition, then the Pens go on a crazy winning streak and those people play down how they previously reacted.
Based on how good the depth has been I think this Pens team has the potential to better than the last few years. |

MAF is probably the furthest thing from a prima donna you can get, but then again your takes are usually pretty loopy.

Well if we are looking for 9 fourth line players your correct. I am shocked that management allowed this to happened but right now the team is what it is . Doing nothing seems like the right thing to do based on the current cap situation. You could not make enough trades to fix it. |

LOL, that was a good one.
It's way to early to trade players. If you're going to tear it down you must wait until trade values are at their highest. That isn't until mid January, the start of TDL.

To everyone blowing it up & keeping sid- Does sid want to play for a pile of junk, with all his friends gone? I’d guess he would do it, just because, but u know he still wants to try to win. I wouldn’t try to force him to be moved, but if it’s a fire sale, he’s obviously gonna get u the most in a trade. If it’s just a business, like so many say, someone would pay a crazy amount for him.
They don’t look like they’re in winning form right now, but I can’t call it yet. Too many people out, too often.
Go from Sully has the Jack adams in the bag after 6 games, to we’re blowing it up after 14? Geez. Quite the emotional roller coaster! |

Sid's salary drops, not his cap hit.
What that means I have no idea. If the Pens sell off, he would be a very attractive commodity. If they don't sell, obviously he stays.

Salary retained? Some people hate Lafferty here. Hagelin is just old right now. |
