Quite honestly, I doubt that Manson is a realistic target. As you point out Mike, Ducks are still very much in the playoff picture. He's also an expensive rental and might be expensive in terms of what the Ducks would demand. Mayfield on NYI is much more realistic. His salary is manageable and NYI have virtually no chance to make the playoffs.

I hear you completely. He's got another year after this one with a cap hit of $1.45. He's played top line minutes in the absence of Pulock and been relatively effective on a team that's breaking down around him.

With injuries and COVID it's been a disaster of a season for the Islanders. They are 8-4 in their last 12, and have improved their record to 16-16-6. Does it suck? Yes. If they rail off another 8-4 they'll have false hope this year anyway (it paces out to about 96pts, even if it's a largely impossible run to maintain).

But the simple truth is that you're right: This year has been a crapfest, but if everyone is healthy next year, they'll want an affordable and effective guy like Mayfield.
